I'm playing the Shattered Kingdom campaign and I have a well sized army (about 150 troops). When I move out to attack the enemy the game crashes. It's happened three times in a row now so I'm stuck and can't progress. Is anyone else experiencing such issues? Any ideas on how to work around it?

I'm playing on Windows 8.1 (64bit).

Maybe try installing KaM remake mod? It fixes a lot of stability issues.

Be aware though that it's not a patch but a mod so for example a few buildings/units from the expansion are still not implemented. You are playing the original campaign so you shouldn't have any problems. And of course you can switch off the mod when you finish the problematic mission.

Yeah, I was hoping to avoid the remake since it changes a variety of things related to the gameplay. But also: the saves are not compatible, or are they?

Frankly, I don't know. It's been a while since I played the game last time and I didn't use the mod during my playthrough. I tested a bit here and there but I don't know much about it.

Did you try standard techniques like changing compatibility settings, admin rights and such?

Actually, I didn't think of that. Silly me. Thanks for the ideas.

EDIT: I tried lots of variations and nothing seemed to help. Also, it seems the crashes are related to the enemy cavalry attacking. Perhaps I'll try a VM next time...

It sounds like a bug in the game itself, I doubt compatibility settings or a VM will help.

No, save game are not compatible between the KaM Remake and the original game.

The KaM Remake should be almost the same as the original game for the "The Shattered Kingdom" campaign. There are more benefits than increased stability, for example zooming, higher resolutions, windowed mode, etc.
