I have been recently having some issues with the game. On my old Windows 7 pc this never occurred, and honestly didn't with this computer (Windows 10) either until recently (and I've had this one for about 4 years)

When I run the game in DirectDraw, and go to the menu to save or to pause the game to go to the restroom or something, I can't just resume (it will freeze and crash, and to even get to the desktop I have to ctrl+alt+delete and select Task Manager) I have to quit and reopen the game, which can be tedious in a save-often puzzle like the one in the two-level tower in the Swamp. The game doesn't do this if I play in 3dfx, but in that mode it's super laggy (takes close to a minute to fully turn around, which is bad when the monster is right behind Connor)

I recently uninstalled it and did a fresh reinstall and the default install location the installer put it in is C:/Games/King's Quest 8, then tried Nicode's patch, and I have even tried running it in compatibility, to no change
The performance issue is a known problem with the nGlide version that is included in the GOG release. Please install the current version of nGlide and rename/delete the glide2x.dll in the game folder.

There are still known problems with some Intel HD Graphics cards/drivers when switching from/to 800x600. I'm working on it, but it still needs some more research, testing, and coding. Since I need to install Windows 10 again/first, it will take a while (read: no promises/releases this year)...

In general you should not enable any compatibility settings when using the KQMoE Shim (kqmoefix).

I did as you said, and the game still acts as before, BUT, I did find a work-around. If when you save, instead of clicking on resume game (or however the game words it) you click on Load and then just load the game you just saved, it doesn't crash
Thanks for sharing the workaround :-)
