Hi

I've had to reset my laptop to factory settings this week, but I managed to grab the save files for the games I'm busy playing, including King's Bounty

After reinstalling windows, I reinstalled KB from the gog website, then copied the saves to the same folder they were in before.

I start the game up, select load game, and it shows my saves. select one to load and it shows the loading screen, and as soon as the circular loading bar is full, it kicks me out and closes the game.

I've tried creating a new game, saving it, and loading that and it works fine.

I suspect that the issue is with the fact that the KB that I was running before was not the same version as the one now available on gog.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix my saves?
If it's not the saves, any idea what it could be?
Any idea if there is a way to download an older version of KB from gog?

Thanks for any help you can give

There should be downgrading opportunity in GOG Galaxy client . When the game in your library, choose it and click 'More' then 'Verify, Repair'. Maybe this can help.

Or try to uninstall, then install it again without updating from gog. At least I had some kind of update after installing.

What's your current game version?
Hi

I'm not sure what version it is, as I can't access my pc at the moment, but it's the latest version currently on Gog.
I've got no idea what version the save files were saved on, but I know it's not the same version that I'm playing

Sorry I've taken so long to respond, and that the info isn't quite what was asked for. We are doing some renovations at the moment, so I can't get to my PC. I'll post when I can get it.
I'd like to note that I have just installed the latest gog version and my old saves aren't working either, keep getting CTDs.
Having exactly the same problem. IIRC there was a problem with The Legend with Dwarve's Land and it was repaired by downloading and installing old kb.exe file into folder (it was impossible to fight/talk/got to city without that). Maybe it is causing the problem.
Bought new notebook, installed games via Galaxy and suddenly trying to load a game (near end in Demonis!) cause game to CTD without any message or info.
I was having a similar problem, and can confirm that using the older executable per the Upper Hadar fix also fixes this issue.

I had a hard drive crash, reinstalled KB:tL and it seemed to work fine, then I noticed to my pleasant surprise that all my old game saves were there too. I guess Galaxy keeps them in the cloud, or else they were on a drive that wasn't affected.

Anyway, at first they seemed fine. However, when I decided to backtrack and take care of some unfinished business in the Islands of Freedom, the game crashed to desktop just before it would have taken me there. No error message or any other indication of trouble, it simply closes.

I had previously used the older .exe file to fix the problem in the dwarven lands, but was now using the newer one. As soon as I installed the old one, it worked fine again.

So, try that fix. (From the game's entry in Galaxy, choose More => View Support and look under Known Solutions to Game Issues).
There is a better solution for the Upper Hadar issue, which doesn't require switching game versions:

https://www.gog.com/forum/kings_bounty_series/gogs_kings_bounty_the_legend_v1_7_build_35396_has_some_serious_bugs/post35

I think gog should probably add those override files as part of the standard package because this is a really common issue.
No go! That solution is worse than useless, at least for me.

While the reverting-versions solution worked fine, the one rmeakins suggests actually makes the problem WORSE - instead of only crashing in certain areas, it crashes as soon as I try to load a saved game no matter where I am.

Hmm, interesting. It worked great for me - resolved the issue and kept the game version at the latest official patch.
Well, the reversion worked for me so I've happlily continued playing with that solution in place. Maybe the problem is that I kept playing reverted up to just after reaching the elven lands, rather than applying your solution as soon as I encountered the problem.

I'm one of those somewhat-techy dudes who understands computers just well enough that I can usually solve or avoid the common problems people have, so any problem I have ends up being a weird problem.
