The spirit Lina wants me to do something with a machine in the dwarven lands, but when I get to the machine, it won't work--I get the grabby-hand icon when I hover over the machine, but nothing happens when I click on it. Plus, several of the buildings in the area are also now unresponsive (which an internet search informs me is part of the same bug).

Googling gave me the following suggested fixes:

1) Leave the area and come back
2) Back up your saved games, reinstall the game, then reload the save game
3) Revert to an older saved game from before you entered the dwarven lands, and try again.

Those apparently work for some people, but I tried all three of those, in combination, and none of it worked. I don't know what to do now. I can't continue with the game like this--it's not only Lina that I can't activate, but also several of the dwarves' buildings that look like they're attached to quests.

Any other suggestions?

Unfortunately this seems to be a known bug. However, there is a workaround. Try this...
http://www.gog.com/support/kings_bounty_the_legend/upper_hadar_location_impossible_to_talk_to_npcs

Hope it works for you :)
There's also a second workaround available by downloading and extracting some files into the game directory. Link here:

http://www.gog.com/forum/kings_bounty_series/gogs_kings_bounty_the_legend_v1_7_build_35396_has_some_serious_bugs/post35
Awesome! Thank you both. I was looking in the wrong place for a fix. Should've known gog would have a patch for it. :)

I used the first workaround, and it works, but it's weird: once I used the old .exe file once, in order to get through Hadar, now the game shuts down any time I try to open it with the regular, new .exe file, even though I've long since left that area. So I guess I'll just be playing the entire rest of the game with the special old version of the file. That's okay though; it doesn't seem to make any difference to how the game runs.
Is there any simle fix for thix problem? i cant unlock Lina at the Generator

Have you tried using either of the above fixes?

The first link has changed slightly, you now need to go to;
http://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/213517069-King-s-Bounty-The-Legend
and under known solutions to game issues GOG has provided a download file to fix this problem.

I've checked the other link too by rmeakins and their file is still available to download too.
