I noticed that the visual effects of winter are different than what I've seen in videos. Instead of a white texture over trees, land and top of buildings, "my winter" is depicted by a simple change in the color balance. That is everything turns a bit whiter, but fields are still green, trees are still uncovered and it generally looks like a poor composition instead of an idyllic winter.

I've played around with the graphical options but this does not seem to be it.

Is this intended, or am I experiencing a bug?

I have attached a screen shot.

Interesting, it looks like the very first beggining of the change to winter in the videos. As if your games is getting stuck in the starting phase of winter display and doesn’t progress to the full winter mode. At least in terms of displaying winter season.

Edit:

I have played the game as well and I see the same effect. Is it possible it has to do with the mild winters in the lower difficulties? I’ll try out the hardest difficulty and check if the hard winters look as white as a full snow cover is supposed to be.

Edit 2:

I started a new game on Vintar difficulty, and the winter looks as mild and short as in the other modes. No full snow cover, only a minor bleaching out of color during winter time. Winter seems to be broken indeed.

The issue seems to have been fixed in 109.

I switched to the beta channel shortly after your post, and I think they fixed it in one of the 108b versions quite a while ago.

I’m glad you can finally enjoy the fix, too :)

Well, I wish I could, but the Linux release for K&C on GOG always lags behind, and it seems this time is no exception. :(

That sucks. I haven’t fired up my Linux for a little while, so I haven’t checked the Linux vesion yet.
