I've noticed that simply running this game by itself is enough to set off my UPS alarm to tell me I'm out of juice.

Quite literally, my setup is fine, I run Kingdoms and Castles, and about 3 seconds later, my UPS makes noise. If I close the game, everything goes back to normal.

(I've noticed the game runs at something like 250 FPS, which seems a bit excessive.)

Perhaps the game could cap its render rate to something more reasonable like... 60?

(I could provide anecdotes about all the other high-demand gaming I do which never causes the issue, but people take such stories as bragging or choose to nitpick, so I'll abstain.)

edit:

To compare, I loaded up OpenHardware and this game pushes the card usage to 99%. By comparison, maxing out Prey has usage at 40ish.

Have you tried to force vertical synchronization using your driver controller ? As far as I know, the game doesn't have any vsync option (which could lead to your issue). However, it's always possible to override this preference using the driver control panel.

If your components are able to brown out your PSU, then your PSU is too weak. Your power source should be able to put out enough juice in every situation, even if the system is under full load.

Please read: it was my UPS that was giving the brownout alert. My PSU is rated well above what my compents will draw (It supports something like a 1000+W draw. Also, later nVidia cards have had notably lower max draws. The 1080 is under 200W, if I recall correctly.)

Again, my setup is fine.

Let us assume, for the moment, that my system *is* the one at fault... What is this game doing that forces a GTX1080 to hit 99% load? What is this game doing that is more than double the load of Prey with maxed out settings at 1440p?

The problem is not with my computer, but with the game.

I am also having this problem, not going to be playing it until they have optimised it a lot better than what it is.
This game should not be pushing a high end GC to nearly full load.
Unfortunately i have to second this post.

My hardware is also being pushed to the ceiling.
Difference though is, i dont have high end stuff.

CPU: I5 4570
GPU: Radeon R9 380 4 GB(MSI)
Ram: 8 GB

Same approach as Silentparasite, not going to play until that issue is solved.

I(ve just tried it on an old P4, with win XP and an old fanless geforce and 4Go of ram. Turns pretty well. But the Geforce is burning :)
For me, it's really a vsync issue.

Blame the rider, not the horse. (To be clear, I'm blaming the developers of the game, not the engine. There are a fuckton of Unity games that don't have this same issue.)

A bit funny you post this *right* as there's a relevant Jimquisition:

I'm sorry , but i don't watch trash .
I'm also getting 100% GPU usage on two GTX970's in SLI.
Resolution at 2560 x 1440 fullscreen on one monitor.
This is only when I am zoomed in close.
At normal playing level im getting around 70% on both cards.
Turning off SSAO makes a substantial difference for me -20% usage.
The more I am zoomed in, the higher the usage.
On my R9 270x the gpu load is around 93% when the main menu loads and that is at default screen size for the game aka 720X560. When the map loads it goes up to 99% and gpu temperature goes up to almost 70C and then I exit the game. This is just crazy. Essentially the game is unplayable right now cause its overloading the graphics card. Something went very wrong with the programming and optimization here. And r9 270x is essentily a HD 7870 which is the recommended graphics card.

Edit: The above is not valid anymore. The beta branch of the game in galaxy has fixed the existing issue by enabling V-Sync.

The new version is supposed to go online to gog tomorrow.

Has the recent patch with vsync resolved this issue for you all? It was meant to.
