When trying to install on a current (ed)Ubuntu (64bit) I get the following error:

PANIC
Initial setup failed. Cannot continue.

Googling didn't do much for me. I don't seem to be able to simply unzip the contents. Help?

Did you try:
$ 7z x installer.sh
I don't own this one. Do you have enough free space and I guess you could try another download. Might want to check the md5sum before & after.

Actually, I didn't try 7zip - however I redownloaded and noticed 1 byte size difference (and with that of course a different md5).

The Installation did finally work, but running doesn't. the binary in "game/" is not found, neither through start.sh nor by running directly... I am still looking into that.

Background: I just installed Edubuntu on this Notebook. No issues with disk space or other things.

Ok, so...
readelf -a Kingdom\ Rush.x86
-> [Requesting program interpreter: /lib/ld-linux.so.2]

I install libc6-i386.

So then
game/Kingdom Rush.x86: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I install libstdc++6:i386. After that this game carries on, I install...

libglu1:i386
libxcursor1:i386

... Now it seems to run.

Why the .... doesn't the install script take that into account? At least check if the required libs are available?

Glad you have it running.

It's part of GOG's Linux installer strategy. It has never included any dependencies and doesn't seem to bundle any libs along with the game even when it would appear to make sense. Can't say I understand it either. Usually the dependencies are listed on the game page (after a few days), but it looks like it hasn't been updated yet.
