I was ready to give up on Kingdom Come because of numerous issues such as quests bugging out, frame rate drops, the insanely annoying lockpicking mini-game, and so on. However, like most of us here, I was determined to find a way to play Kingdom Come because of how immersive the gameplay is and how well it replicates the medieval world. So, after many hours of searching and tweaking, I believe I have finally come up with solutions to the issues that were bothering me the most. The main issue of course would be quests that don't work properly. I went to this website to find some mods:
https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomcomedeliverance/mods
1. Over 100 Saved Games: (uploaded by renedo): If a quest bugs out on me, I just load up one of these saves and continue from there. For instance, I was recently stuck in The Hunt Begins because I could not mount the horse named Pebbles. So I loaded up the Hunt Begins save from this file and I could mount the horse just fine.
2. Torch Toggle Key: (uploaded by dimasnik): With this mod, I can toggle the torch instead of having to go into the inventory and equip it.
3. Unlimited Saving: (uploaded by EddieShoe): With this mod, I can save the game at any time with no problem at all.
4. Lockpicking Overhaul: (uploaded by fireundubh): This mod gets rid of the annoying lockpicking minigame. Some people might really enjoy this, but I sure don't.
5. No Reticle: (uploaded by JustAnOrdinaryGuy): This mod gets rid of that annoying yellow dot in the center of the screen.
I also made some changes to the graphics settings that seemed to have eliminated frame rate drops. I couldn't tell any difference in lowering many of these settings.
Resolution: 1920x1080
Fullscreen
Overall Image Quality: CUSTOM
HD Textures: ON
VSync: ON
Vertical FOV: 75
Antialiasing: OFF (FXAA on video card)
Object Quality: MEDIUM
Game Effects: LOW
Lighting: LOW
Particles: LOW
Physics: LOW
Postprocess Quality: LOW
Shader Quality: MEDIUM (low causes shadow flickering)
Shadows: LOW
Textures: HIGH
Water Details: HIGH
Volumetric Effects Detail: LOW
Vegetation Detail: MEDIUM
Object/LOD/Vegetation Distance: below middle
Motion Blur: OFF
I also created a user.cfg file with these settings and added "+exec user.cfg" in the target field. These figures are based on an i7-4790k eight thread four core processor, a GTX 1080 with 4GB ram, and 16GB system ram.
r_BatchType = 1
r_MultiThreaded = 1
r_TexturesStreamPoolSize = 1024
r_HDRBloom = 0
r_DepthOfField=0
r_MotionBlur = 0
r_ShadowBlur = 0
r_Sharpening = 0
r_ChromaticAberration = 0
r_Brightness = 0.5025
r_Gamma = 1.01
sys_main_CPU = 0
sys_physics_CPU = 2
sys_streaming_CPU = 4
sys_budget_videomem = 4096
sys_budget_sysmem = 16384
sys_specs = 3
ca_thread0Affinity = 0
ca_thread1Affinity = 2
e_ShadowsMaxTexRes= 512
e_ShadowsPoolSize = 512
e_StreamCgfPoolSize = 512
e_ShadowsReScale = 30
e_AutoPrecacheTexturesAndShaders = 1
e_PreloadMaterials = 1
e_PrecacheLevel = 1
e_StreamPredictionAhead = 1
g_radialBlur = 0
i_mouse_smooth = 1
i_mouse_accel = 0
Of course, there is absolutely nothing you can do about frame rate drops during large scale battles, such as the one that takes place in Baptism of Fire. Maybe get a new pc with an amazingly fast processor? Not even sure about that. However, with these mods and settings, I can finally enjoy Kingdom Come Deliverance on my current pc. Perhaps others who are tempted to give up on it might want to try some of these.
