Got the heads-up from my AV/security software. Still works without allowing it access but is that behaviour really necessary by default in a DRM-free game? :/

probably a dumb question but i noticed you could unselect installing GOG Galaxy during kingdom_come_deliverance install. Are you saying that even without Galaxy installed it's still trying to connect to the internet?

Yes. I don't have GOG Galaxy installed as I only download classic installers (as you may know, after selecting a game in your library you can click on "MORE" to get tags, forum, classic installers, etc.).

Every time I run KC:D it wants internet access which I deny.
Just FYI, that is most likely the analytics that most developers have built into their games now. I wouldn't call it DRM since it doesn't do anything that restricts usage of the software. It's more like tracking software since it aims to find out stuff like system specs, crash reporting, game play times etc... Pretty much every single newer Unity or Unreal Engine game has it built in. I am not sure about KCD but I think it's cryengine and I don't see why it wouldn't also have some kind of analytics built in.

Yeah, that happens on all versions of the game (GoG, Steam, and the 'trybeforeyoubuy' version). Cryengine (like most modern game engines) has some built in network functionality and that might be what is generating the alert.
still seems intrusive to me. Whole reason i buy from GOG is to support these companies that don't use DRM, and then to be left alone by them. No i don't want to share system specs. contacting the internet for a single player game is just stupid. Please leave us alone.
All i can say is welcome to new world, read EULA carefully, and use firewalls.
Using GOG Downloader installers, I had to allow local host loopback even just to get the game to run.

Aside from that, though, KC:D attempts to connect to 194.110.240.185 (CDPR-registered domain) when launched. Since the attempt is made via UDP protocol, presumably it's meant as a "feeler" before establishing solid connection.

Yeah, not cool at all.
