If i want to build trade routes in the next year, should I invest my magic points into diplomacy or trade? or both? or neither?

I don’t think either one helps. (At this point, I’m not entirely sure what the logic was. Perhaps yours is cancelled out by theirs over the course of the negotiations, or are simply less important than what it is you propose trading.)
