WalrusJones: The fight with the four enemies has had one success over all my tries.
Did you pick fight or seduce for the Dark Woman part?
I end up having to fight either way....
Then perhaps Bargaining\Leadership aren't high enough on the noble you selected.

Also, you might want to check you know all of the details of the quest (this may require multiple sacrifices to Orlanth).

H2IWclassic: When did the failure(s) happen?
avatar
WalrusJones: The first four times with Orlanth an Aroka, where there was only two with Elmal Guards the Stead.

I have confirmed this ratio via the magic of old saves today.

And.... I know I am attempting Heroquests a bit too often... But, I have proof my clan is rather well off at this point, and thus, am taking unnecessarily big risks to spice things up.:

Damn, 64 Weaponthanes is doing some things! Is that as a war clan? I have only played as balanced so far.

I had an event where I was allowed to send my weaponthanes on a distant crusade, and I sent ALL of them.

As a balanced clan.

I then hired new weaponthanes, and did an event that got me 15 more weapon thanes. The old weapon thanes returned home with money.

Then I hired more weapon thanes because apparently I am allowed to do such things (?)
Orlanth and Aroka is the hardest for me. Elmal is okay-ish, I tend to fail on the second appearance of the Teller of Lies (where it offers kingship IIRC).

Lhankor and Issaries are the easiest, perhaps that's because I tend to de-prioritize them and by the time I get to them, my lawspeaker and trader have leveled up. Really, when I'm bored during Dark Season and don't have a spirit fetch for Paratur to pacify a slighted neighbor or a nonhuman faction via Issaries, I just quest for Knowledge.

Uralda is not too bad if you sacrifice cattle (the success of which seems to be based on Magic, which should be quite high after all the sacrificing for mysteries you do as part of your daily life) - the quester tends to get lost but doesn't actually die and can even get a wheel out of the deal.

I always found Lankhor quite difficult. Perhaps because I only took it a few times, so a few failures are more prominent.
And because, while a failed "warrior" quest often "simply" result in a dead or wounded hero, the result of a failed quest for knowlege can be... Impressive *shudder*
Yes, for example failing the Issaries heroquest will screw up everyone's maps and trade routes. In case it hasn't been mentioned, having seven different gods represented on the clan ring is important for heroquesting.

I have a traumatic memory about a Lankhor Mhy Quest where I wanted to make my leaders wiser.

Losing a warrior in epic combat is one thing. Seing your epic lawspeaker become dumber than a rock is... brutal.

Love this game! :)
