Even though this is a very niche game, I think the people who have played are so enthralled by it that they would glady commit significant amounts to a Kickstarter that remakes the PC version and brings even more updates than the iOS/Android versions.

So many possibilities. new places to explore, maybe even some new gameplay elements. It would be nice if there were ways to train your ring members, or produce better weapons for your thanes instead of fancy goods. Maybe a witch/healer class that could help take care of sick and wounded and spwan a whole load of new events. More diplomatic options like marrying off your kids to different tribes to ensure alliance.

So would you generously support a Kickstarter? I would be in for €50, as it has given me much more enjoyment and tons of more play time than many AAA games.

Question for ddunham: Would you be interested in this, and how much money do you think you would need?
As much as I would love an updated version of KODP (probably my favourite videogame ever), and I would cash in for a KS, I don't think the KS would work so well. The game is already old, most people interested in it on PC alredy have the current version, so it would try to cater mostly to die-hard fans like you and me. Not a strong fundation for a KS, I think. Unless the "additional content" is substantially big, or it's a new game rather than a port, which would mean much work (and much costs)

But if there ever is one anyway, I'm in for 100$ the minute it gets live. I'm serious when I say I freakin' LOVE this game :)
And I could be sorely mistaken too about the KS popularity, of course

PS : I don't see what you mean by "a healer class". We already have the Chalana Arroy cultists among the nobles, don't we?

I’m not terribly interested in doing the same game a third time, I’m afraid. So I haven’t really thought much about how much it would cost. Remember too that no remake is going to end up suddenly having versions of the art larger than 640x480.

What you describe sounds more like a new game, at least “new places to explore” makes me think of a new map.
I think an expansion would be most versatile. A new game would have issues such as ddunham described above and Kardill as well but an expansion that could be applied as a patch or a mod but with official support could work. That way it's completely optional, doesn't require something new like an engine or even art higher than 640x480 but it would add to the game for those that are interested. I'm no programmer so I'm not sure if such a thing can be created that the creator can easily port it to all systems though.

Question is, are there enough fans to want more out of this to support it?

Agreed.

Me, I'd throw away $15, $20 tops for a KoDP Kickstarter campaign and I consider myself a big fat contributor of KS campaigns and a fan of KoDP to the point of annoyance.

Well, I would not say no to game based on same setting either. *hint* *hint* ;-p
It will work and generate quite a bit of money. I hang out a lot in KS (250 projects backed) and a lot of people actually knows that game even creators and have fond memory of it.

It is the type of game that if you haven't played it, you're really missing something. After that it's just a matter of will to do it.
one example of convo about King of dragon pass on a KS game that ended just yesterday (that which sleeps) who generated 85k$ (while having asked only 12k (niche game too)). King dinosaur games is the creator (you read the convo from down and up)

It's so nice to see good taste in the comments. King of dragon pass is a great game and the system is quite relevant to the game getting funded here (choice and consequences).
Now tell things like alpha centauri is the most intelligent 4x ever made and we will be bff.

@Dawn Optimist i see? Yea i love text based games, but they are sort of narrow at the steam shelf nowadays. Some recent additions like Vlad the impaler but most is minor and not fun to play. King of Dragon Pass continues to entertain me (And frustrates me, the ipad version only got normal and its not freaking easy) and is perfect considering i travel alot in my work

@Dawn/Carl Even the music in King of Dragon Pass was fantastic, just a great vision and so well executed.

What I would love to see is King of Dragon Pass 2, where you actually have to run the kingdom that you forged in the first game. I guess that the threat of the expanding Lunar Empire would be one of the main focus points, towards the end at least. That, or a somewhat similar game set in a different part of Glorantha. Yeah, I doubt it will ever happen, but one may always dream.
They're making a sequel - Six Ages!

Yeah, announced a few days after I said I doubt it will ever happen. I've never been happier to be wrong.
