I'm just curious. What is the difference and will this cause further delays when new versions of KSP gets released?

Its the same with all versions of the game, GOG repackages the files in their own way.
This combined with the fact they are based in Europe (and the patch came out in the middle of the night for them) means that there will always be a delay for patches with GOG.
We are currently waiting for 1.1.1 which has been out for 12+ hours on steam and from the KSP store.
Why couldn't they just give us the same package that the others use? I hate being the last one to get the updates...

Patch was broken, well issues anyway.

Internal technical reasons of some sort.

Ooooh yeah. I was playing on my Steam version when that patch rolled out, and it killed the "ship ressource" tab, neutralised the "change ship" tool and the control station, making two docking crafts uncontrollable with the expected results, and erased my EVA Jeb out existence with a nice "Jebediah ship didn't load : part not found" obituary. I had to roll back to a quicksave I made several missions back to save my space program from this unholy mess.
Oh, and it caused 3 crashes in 30 minutes, just to make things worse (being forced to reboo the game twice simply to confirm that you are, indeed, screwed over, is pure bliss, as you can imagine)

So yeah on this case, using the "dated" GOG version might have saved me from some headache. ^^

EDIT : Ooops, didn't see the "OSX" in the OP. My personal hell was on last week's windows patch.
