This would be hard to do, since both the cigarettes and the lighter plays an active part in the story and several of the puzzles. Also, Kathy is a very strong protagonist in the sense that the story is explicitly about her and her family, and where you (as a player) is only allowed to take actions that fit with what Kathy would do - and in this game smoking is just one of many that she wants to do, while the the player might not...
