Hello, I thought I would share what worked for me for the 3 titles on GOG, with many thanks to the community for helping with their suggestions in older threads - for what is worth I have a Nitro 5 laptop with a rtx geforce

Game #1 - worked well off the bat (ironically it's the oldest)
Game #2- I had given up on it and then a friendly GOG user recommended to run it through Scumm which turned out to clear all issues
Game #3 -friendly GOG gamers suggested to tinker with the options of the start file, and this is what worked for me: go under Compatibility, run in Win 7, 16 bit color, 640x480 res, disable optimizations, use legacy ICC. After the initial movie, lip-sinc worked for me. I did not tinker with GPU settings etc (too many risks). The issue left at this point was the mouse "smudge", but as suggested by one more helpful GOG gamer, clicking on the mouse while moving removes the trail. Not perfect but playable now

I hope this is of any help - once again thanks to all the useful posts, in particular: EchoVolume, Bashman15, BarneyChu
Tried all those options and I still can't get JP3 to load properly, it always crashes at the main menu.

Sorry do not know what else to suggest, I have an Acer laptop windows 11 and Geforce RTX assuming hardware is an issue..... can anyone else chime in?

You are seeing a smudge? Not a blinking as can be found on YouTube gameplay videos as example? It should only be blinking without smudging. The blinking is easily nearly removed by GPU Scheduling disable which isn't really risky, its just forgetting that is the risky thing there. Not a risky setting to disable. Possibly could affect a smudge too but that is unknown by me.

Not sure what a smudge would be from. That shouldn't be happening. I could see a GPU driver/software or monitor doing that. Haven't seen that on Nvidia nor Intel now with latest drivers so not sure where they are coming from for you. I can't say that smudges are normal here. That doesn't exist in the game with the mouse use.

If the instructions were followed indentically, its going to be an unknown. I had used all fully updated software at the time and did not have anything else to add from beginning of the game all the way to the end. The crash here is not Windows 11 itself. If it were it would work for no one and that's not the case.

Edited for simplification. Exceptionally easy to make this too long with all kinds of stuff. Just going to avoid that.

Editing in some additional tests for JP3 (JP3 from GOG) done today:

Confirmed I installed and did testing of JP3 because there are those tired days :)

End result: Couldn't find anything that causes a crash on the game menu. My viewpoint is that there's something about that specific computer with the crash on the main menu that conflicts with, the game can't take, or is providing/doing something bad to the game. To keep things simpler, not adding anything to that.

A1-B1 - This OS installation is showing install on 4/23/2025 so first time it looks like for the game on this install. Windows 11 25H2 version 26200.7840

A1. Default compat by GOG (run as admin and nothing else in compat settings), etc. Game starts and goes to in-game section perfectly fine. Only blinking in-game mouse pointer that I'm not applying the solution for in these tests. After this I disabled admin, enabled Win 7 compat and icc (all other tests of this specific install are with it set this way).

A2. Disable Admin compat setting with game installed at "C:\Journeyman Project 3 - Legacy of Time\". No issue seen on menu.

A3. Delete the two Quicktime files in the game dir results in error box trying to start the game.

A4. Not found via files: Deletion of many game files just results in the game discarding videos or speech and not crashing. Certain files or times of missing files can result in crash with node error during the game. Deletion of j3diskid.fil file causes blank box then some oddities then crash after starting new game. Deletion of J3data results in lots of node errors going to main menu then results in black screen. j3prefs.fil is auto created on game start. Deletion of graph.arc results in spinning mouse cursor then game closes. Deletion of goggame.dll unknown use (no issue seen on menu or first gameplay). Deletion of ddraw.dll menu is fine but then at in-game it has grey boxes and errors. Did not fully test corruption but it appears to go the same way as deletion here.

A5. Test an overlay. No crash at menu on Gamebar overlay.

B1. Install via GOG Galaxy to default install path and launch. No crash on menu. Gets to first gameplay just fine. GOG Overlay not available for this game.

C1. Install to Windows 11 on Intel only computer its never been played on (aka Intel integrated GPU) and start the game. No crash on game menu. Goes to in-game just fine same as other computer used for all previous tests and full playthrough.
