Hey all!

Really disappointed when I tried to play this new purchase from GOG. I loved this game back in the day, and was excited to be able to play it again...and then I started it up.

Here's my issue...I get maybe 12 horizontal lines of the video (if I'm lucky), and the transitions between each move location just black out until you arrive at the next point. That's really disappointing, because those are almost the best part.

I'm running Win 7 64-bit, nvidia GeForce GT 555M, running in all sorts of modes. I tried turning off UAC, running in compatibility mode (XP and Win 95), and everything on the general "issues" FAQ. Any ideas? Anyone else come across the same issue?
I have the exact same issue. I cannot see the start of the intro film, and afterwards, the video image seems to be vertically compressed onto only about 20 pixels on the center of my screen (the rest of the screen is black). In addition, I have hideous graphics glitches during every FMV animation. This makes the game unplayable.

I would appreciate it if the support team at GOG.com (provided one exists) would sort this out.
Well, I've submitted a ticket over a week ago, and haven't heard a word.

Getting irritated that I have this game I've paid for that I really can't play...especially since it's one I KNOW I would enjoy. Grrrrr.....
If it's a video problem, it's almost certainly something to do with quicktime. Do you have 'QuickTime.qts' and 'QuickTime.qtp' in the JP3 installation direction? Do you have any other versions of quicktime or quicktime alternative installed? If so, does the problem go away if you uninstall them?

Edit: You can also try renaming QuickTime.qtp, to reset quicktime back to its default state.

I do have the two files in the installation directory. Renaming QuickTime.qtp does not fix the problem.

Interestingly, Gog.com suggests a "solution" that unfortunately only works if one applies it for every single FMV animation out there - which means one misses out on most of the game's content, as most animations are so short that there isn't enough time to apply it. The solution involves hitting ctrl+alt+del and going into Task Manager, then going back into the game. Apparently, alt+tab would also work if the game didn't prevent you from switching to other windows.
Like everyone else here, i too had the same issue with video not playing.

I'm on Win7 laptop.

I did manage to get the game to work by accident when i wired my laptop into my TV.
The video then worked perfectly and seemlessly.

Im no techy so cant explain why other than to say my TV changes the coputers resolution from 1366 x 768 (default) to 1360 x 768

Hope that may provide some help. There's nothing worse than 'almost' being able to play a game you got excited about being released.

Best wishes to you all.
Interestingly, I ran Space Rangers 2 recently and experienced a similar problem, in that two of the three intro films ran perfectly well (the other one was completely black, although with sound), and was then greeted with a black screen featuring a cursor. Hitting alt+tab to go back to the desktop, then going back in, allowed the game menu to display properly, although I had to do the alt+tab trick whenever I clicked on any menu option, as the menu would not be re-rendered. Switching into windowed mode via the options menu, which is something someone else on GoG.com recommended, was enough to solve the problem.

The issue here is that Journeyman Project 3 does not have a windowed mode. If it did, it might actually run flawlessly. I am not sure how to force software to run in windowed mode on windows 7, however.

The GOG version does. Hit win+r to open the run dialog, and type %APPDATA%. That should open windows explorer. If there's not already a folder in there called GOG create one, and inside that create one called JourneymanProject3. Inside there create a file called 'config.ini', and into that type:

Windowed=1

Hasn't really been tested at all (it was just a debugging aid for me while I was poking at it,) so it might cause other problems. At the least, the mouse behaves a bit weirdly towards the edges of the window, but not in a game breaking way. I'm not convinced it would help the videos, but if it does then great.
Thank you so much timeslip! I did exactly what you said and ran the program without selecting an earlier windows compatibility, but selected 640x480 resolution, and the program runs perfectly! I'm absolutely amazed. I'll let you know if i encounter any problems, but so far animations and video sequences seem normal.

EDIT: it works for me so far as well, although it's not actually running in windowed mode.

It was essential for me for the path to be \users\[insert name here]\AppData\Roaming\GOG\JourneymanProject3\config.ini . Not "\AppData\Local", not "\GOG.com\" , not "\Journeyman Project 3 - Legacy of Time". I didn't get that you were actually one of the developers and thought the config.ini file is just something that can be set up for all gog games.

Thank you sooooo much timeslip, I went from not being able to play the game at all to it running perfectly with this trick and running as administrator! Never noticed any performance or UI issues except when examining items in inventory the text would flicker but it was still readable. I can't thank you enough for coming up with this wonderful workaround.

I also had the saving/loading issue that some other people have reported, but I found that by starting a new game I could load from there and it would load my data perfectly, just seemed to be an issue with the main menu.

This worked just make sure you type out the file name i just copied and pasted at first didn't realized it kept it as a text file till after that now all good i am glad to found this and i will be doing video game commentary to help bring people back to this type of game
I tried this for my version and it doesn't run in windowed mode, I run the game and nothing shows on the screen and I must use the options in the file menu to get the main screen to even show up.

Any ideas for fixing this?

Also since it doesn't run in windowed mode no cut scenes on walking animations, just lines, same with the actors animations while talking to gage.

If these solutions don't work, definitely mail support and detail what did not work.
