Well I finally scanned a few pages. In February I posted this:
http://www.gog.com/forum/jagged_alliance_series/jagged_alliance_1_strategy_guide

Asking if anyone had ever heard of the guide, because I would love to either get another copy for safe keeping or at least know that someone else even has it!

I attached as many scans as I could in one post. You will see the cover, the back cover, the table of contents, one of the two merc charts and a page that shows how the guide shows you through sectors.

I wasn't able to fit the second chart (which has stuff like the merc's chances of readying a knife if attacked by a snake) and a page with the "interview" with Lucas Santino.

Enjoy and let me know if you guys have ever heard of this or seen it before!

Never heard of it, although I usually assume that there was at least one strategy guide book for every more or less high profile game until the "Turn of the Millenium".
The book looks really cool, I think I'll should try to find a copy, although you said it was pretty rare.
It looks great. Wouldn't mind owning it, either digital or on paper.
Oooohhh, nice find! I wish I'll get my hand on one of these babies once in my lifetime.

Say, would you mind scanning page 28? I knew securing the water supply was a quest but it never crossed my mind that resecuring it was also a quest in the game. I'd be interested to know what triggers this quest and if there's a reward for completing it, and most guides and FAQs on that game seems to be unaware of this quest too.

Looks very useful. Have you tried contacting GOG about maybe scanning it and providing it as a bonus feature?

Regardless, cheers for sharing what you did! :)

I haven't contacted them, no. I don't have access to a good scanner so scanning the book would take forever.

Do you have a camera? A tabletop lamp? A cardboard box? Congratulations, you have a scanner.

See DIY Book Scanner for more.

Good information. Thank you.
Thanks for the heads up about the existence of this strategy guide, chickenhed, I managed to grab myself a copy of it on ebay. :>

Now I just need Deadly Games' guide.
Now I understand your troubles, I've got the guide in my hands and I got to say it's just impossible to scan without cutting the spine and ruining the book. The spine is tight and the margin is inexistent, meaning words are often written in the crack between two pages. At least that's how my copy is. Really, the only way I can imagine someone scanning that is by cutting the spine entirely with a paper cutter then scan the pages one by one.

I'll keep an eye on ebay, with some luck maybe I'll snatch another copy and mail it to GOG, plus a Deadly Games manual while we're at it.

I'd be so glad if you would do that! Hopefully you'll stumble upon the guides very soon. In case they've reached exorbitant prices an eBay, I'd immediately crowdfund you... just sayin' ;-)

Yes, there was one copy back in late june. It wasn't an auction for the guide alone, it was for a well loved boxed copy of Jagged Alliance, complete with the warranty card filled and everything. At that time I was looking every day for a couple of months hoping to find an original box in mint condition to put on my shelf and closer examination of the item pictures revealed it included the guide too. Even if the box was obviously well loved, the guide alone made it an instabuy.

But yeah, as if auctions for the original box that don't use stock photos weren't hard enough to find, finding the first game's guide is quite a challenge if you ask me. Thankfully, most Jagged Alliance fans don't seems to give a rat butt about the first game and Deadly Games compared to the endless possibilities of the second game's modding scene, so there's not a lot of people hunting for the guide, so keep looking, you may be able to grab the next one as myself I am too busy to shop on eBay these days.

I know, but like I said, you cannot scan the guide without cutting the spine and ruining the book forever. Now if I had two copies of the guide, I'd gladly mail one to GOG or anyone trustable and serious enough to scan and upload it themselves, but I have only one copy, and I cherish it, and finding a copy of that guide is harder than finding a needle in a haystack.

You did see post 7 in this very thread, right? It is a bit of work (even more, depending on how many pages the guide has), but it should be doable without destroying the book.
