I'm playing JA2. I've successfully used the timed TNT. Although I don't see any difference in the SAM after setting off the timed explosive next to the SAM. How can I tell if it did anything?

Using Barry (Explosives rating = 92) I have the TNT in his right hand and the detonator in the left. I'm next to a SAM. When I right click, I get a question mark and nothing happens when I click. I've also tried with the hands reversed, and I can't seem to merge them

Sorry for being dense, how do I use the TNT when I have a separate detonator?

TIA, Bob

You have to attach the detonator to the explosives, similar to how you'd attach a scope to a gun (right click on the explosives item to open its data window. Then place the detonator on one of the 4 spaces on the right). Then when you use the bomb, a window will pop up and ask how many turns you'd like the timer to last, bear in mind that if you're setting the bomb in real time each turn can represent... I can't remember, maybe 10 seconds, maybe less.

If your using a remote detonator, it will ask which frequency you'd like to set the detonator too. You can set 4 bombs to each frequency and trigger them individually, as long as you have a remote trigger :).
Are we talking SAM-sites here, like the one 2 sectors east of the Drassen mine?
If so, you can train militia in those sectors.

Small spoiler as far as explosives go:

Don't waste too much explosives by putting timers on them. Later on you'll get remote detonators.

Other than the answers already given, be aware that should the army retake a SAM site, they will repair it. So your best course to disable it is either to sneak in, plant explosives, detonate it and flee (thus incurring a small morale penalty for fleeing), or win the battle, plant the explosive, let the army retake it, and then detonate it (which obviously requires remote detonation).
All in all, it is probably best to take and defend the SAM site instead of disabling it, but to each his own I guess.

I have completed this game about 10 times and I even din't know it was possible to blow up a SAM site :(. Always captured it and skyrider was ok with that.

There are many things that still remain undiscovered for many people in JA2. That's another reason it's such an excellent game.
Have you sent Deidrianna flowers yet?

That one I did yes. I believe that was the first time when Elliot got more then a slap to the face.
