Hello everybody!

I used to play version 2.0 very well on my potato Laptop with Intel HD Graphics, however, after the "3.0.0.9" update I can't play the base game with a good fps rate and playing the expansion is an impossible. =/ Unfortunately, EDuke32 in its latest version also doesn't support Software mode if I select "Ion Fury - Aftershock", how sad... I won't be able to play this. Good thing I still have the version 2.0 files to play on EDuke32, anyway, better than nothing.

If possible, Mrs Voidpoint, consider adding Software mode at least on EDuke32, this won't hurt anyone and will only increase sales, as potato owners will be interested in compatibility, which the game in its current state is not offers. ;)

Thank you for your attention!
Try `setrendermode 0` in console. Use 3 to go back if not through menu.
Full list but only 0 and 3 are available:
0 - CPU: Classic/Software
1 - CPU: n/a: Polymost flatshade prototype
2 - CPU: n/a: Polymost textured prototype
3 - GPU: Polymost/GL
4 - GPU: n/a: Polymer

We ditched classic as a menu option as it scales really poorly with higher resolutions.
Plus Aftershock utilizes quite a few larger transparency effects and design elements that are pure poison to software rendering at a scale but extremely trivial to any sort of 3D accelerator. (i.e. smoke)

From my experience, you can still do 1280x720 with relatively good performance and some times even better than GL with TROR scenarios. But these caveats are rather hard to communicate clearly, plus being able to replicate pretty much 1:1 software look on GL side reduced it to a choice of performance only. (Yes, even y-shearing can be enabled on GL :) )
FYI: Aftershock goes a little more bold with sprite constructions and around the last few months we focused more on getting the game done than wrestle with sprite constructions to reduce visual glitching, so you might see a few more oddities here and there compared to the base game.

Intel HD is a bit of an exception since it has quite a few architectural and driver level bottlenecks compared to something like AMD or NVidia stuff from that era. OpenGL is getting less and less supported I think and even sandy era GPUs with modern drivers no longer work with GL properly.
We did do some optimizations early on during preview days for those.
Thank you so much for this! I hope this works... I'll try it with the GOG version and then on EDuke32. I also hope to play Aftershock in software mode, for me this mode it runs smoother and is less demanding on the PC.
It worked with the base game and expansion! So far no software mode bugs or graphical weirdness. The only thing I received were some fps drops here and there, but nothing that hindered the game.
Big thanks for this post since I too have potato 10 years old laptop.
Game works fine in software mode, good speed, only some very small visual glitches with sprite priority over level architecture when there many room over room stuff going on, but normally it works as good as vanilla release. Awesome game :)

Yes, you're right! I noticed these graphical things on my second playthrough. On the first playthrough I was too excited to notice anything. XD
