I have been playing this wonderful game for some weeks now on a widescreen tv, but as I suspected EoC does not correct the field of view for widescreen resolutions and results in losing vertical parts of the screen.
A lot of games though (including EoC) allow for FOV to be changed by editing the configuration manually and you can change the cockpit FOV by editing the flux.ini file with notepad.
In this file search for the icInternalCamera topic and I have changed the value of the field_of_view = 1.1 to field_of_view = 1.3.
I have an 16:9 aspect ratio tv and for most games adding 20° to the horizontal FOV works fine.
I also added 0.2 to the FOV for all the other cameras.

After studying flux.ini some more I found out that the game was using DirectX7 graphics on my system.
When I altered it to use DirectX8 I saw quite an improvement in the quality of the graphics mainly in shadows and light. I changed in [icOptions]
directx8_available = 1
use_directx8 = 1

Hi,
I just started playing this game again after many years and I felt the same suspicion about the resolution. A search led me to your post. I've been messing with the flux file, but it's as if the game is ignoring my edits. Are you playing the GOG version or from CD? I wonder what step I'm missing.

This can happen if the game is installed to the Program Files folder in Vista/7/8. Due to the security model, changes are not allowed to files in the Program Files folder unless you're running as an admin. Instead windows creates a copy of the changed file and stores it in a folder in your user area. It's easier to install the game to a non-system folder where this won't happen.
Hi,
Yeah, I finally tried running it as administrator..and it worked! Of course I had mangled my flux beyond recognition by then so I had to start from a restored file. But It's running right with the cockpit view in a beautiful 1920x1080!

thanks.
