I grew up playing X-Wing and Wing Commander, but my favorite space sim of that era was Frontier Elite 2. I missed this game and it's sequel the first go around, and when I finally got around to digging them up and trying to play Independence War 1 simply would not run properly on my XP system, the sequel did and I had a lot of fun with it. When I saw this game on GOG I had to buy it, knowing that they had figured out a way to install it and make it playable on modern systems.

Thank you GOG. This game is just simply fantastic, it only took a quick tweak of the glide wrapper settings to get it running in a great way thank to other threads on this forum. The amount of fun I've had playing this game in the last 2 weeks brings me back to my childhood, where simply playing and experimenting and learning a game was so rewarding.

This game is a challenge, if you aren't familiar with games with "newtownian physics" even more so. But the reward of learning the controls and going into combat and completing missions is incredibly satisfying. If you have any interest in space sims or combat sims or simply fun, challenging games, just do it. It just simply doesn't get much better than this in the genre.

I agree. Frankly all the arcade space games without proper physics drive me nuts. They're so simple they get boring very, very fast. There's nothing to it but "point the crosshairs at the target and shoot." In I-War it's fun just to fly around and attempt stunts.
