I've tried to get it to install from the cd and even copied all three disks to my HD.
But all I get is a box with a exclaimation point and no dialog other than ok. When I hit ok it just crashes to the desktop.

instaled it in xp mode but I get the same problem..
installed the compatability program from Microsoft and no luck.
And installed the nglide wrapper and configured it for my system.

Oh and this is the orginal version of I-war that was released in the usa.

System specs:
windows 7 64 bit
Amd Phenom II X2 240 @ 2.8ghz
4 gig ram
ATI 6770

Thanks

Most likely cause is the installer executable is probably a 16-bit application (very common for games of that age). Since Windows no longer supports 16-bit, the installer will never work on Win 7.
You're much better off simply re-buying it from GOG. Even if you could get it installed it's doubtful the game would run. It's been almost impossible to get the original release playable on XP let alone Windows 7.

GOG did some great magic in getting it running so well on a modern machine. Let them do all the hard work :-)
If I remember to do so, I'll give it a shot this evening on my 7 laptop and report back. Worked great on XP, both the GOG and CD versions, but I haven't yet installed it on the new machine.

Edit: I guess I DID put it on the new one. Works fine for me so far, with one exception. The laptop has the integrated + discrete GPU combo and I'm supposed to be able to force one or the other. It's not letting me do that. This is more a problem with the GPUs and the nVidia Optimus software, and not the game itself.

On my setup, I am not using a compatibility mode and I do not have it set for admin privileges. Basically, it's just a plain ol' 7 installation. Wish I could give you some great answer on how to make it work...

So is that Win7 64-bit? By any chance, do you have IW2 working on that laptop?
Sorry for the slow response.

Yep, 64-bit and it's running. I haven't played far into it but it does work. I was able to get it running with the nVidia GPU instead of the onboard Intel unit - just had to fiddle with the Optimus settings a bit more.
Cool, thanks. At least a couple folks on here seem to have got it working. I just purchased another GOG game <mumble> (too many games) </mumble> so I'll leave this one for now and keep an eye on it.
