This is something that keeps getting more and more annoying.. mostly because I don't know whether it is actually intended or not.

Here's my problem: sooner or later during essentially every engagement when flying behind an enemy in perfect range (about 1-2km away) I shoot and can hear the little explosion-impact sound.. but I do not actually do any damage. Maybe one point, from time to time. At first I thought this is on purpose and I simply do not hit, but especially against the smaller fighters it is getting ridiculous.. I have to chase these guys up to 100km and chip away at them until for some reason I finally do damage and blast them away with three hits.

If this indeed is a bug.. I will first eat my keyboard and then probably start the game from scratch since simply doing damage would - who would have thought - be a crazy game changer o_O

I also found this old FAQ, which exactly describes my problem:

Q: My CPU is 600Mhz and over. When I attack ships in the game, I see the shots impact the hulls of the other vessels and I hear the impact noise, but no damage is registered, or the damage barely creeps up. Am I just a bad shot or is something wrong?

A: In many cases like this the processor is actually too fast for I-War's old game engine to be able to handle. You must slow down the processor. If you know how to do this with BIOS, try it. However, there are programs available to slow down the processor. While I can't find the link someone gave me for one a while ago, I know that one can search for them with search engines.

Can any one confirm this? Any help would be immensely appreciated, since this is my primary source of frustration with the game.

*Edit: seems I should have searched first. There are two other threads on this already:
#1
#2

But so far no clear solution it seems. The problem could be because of the cannons overheating ingame or the game running too fast (more than 100fps seems to lead to problems).

**Edit: Waiting for the cannons to cool down does not seem to help. The first shot from cooled cannons still usually hits but simply does no damage. However, I tried this with the large carrier that launches the indie fighters.. not sure if the game actually allows me to damage that ship since it doesn't take damage even if I attack it at the same time as another navy ally.

The 100fps issue is a real bug, and is because the game's timer uses centi-seconds. If the frame-rate goes above 100fps it can lead to hits not being registered.

I'm not sure if a definite 100% fix was ever found, but forcing vsync on the game using the glide wrapper or graphic card settings may help.
