Welp, I guess after attempting it about 10 times and being unable to find a walkthrough I guess I should ask the only ones that'd know.

I'm stuck on the final phase of the mission. Scout the COSA base, get close enough to their carrier to take a picture, then go home.

Just before I get to the point, they take control - can't avoid this so I presume it's scripted (can't be keeping that fancy black ship after all).

I figure out that I can pop the command section to get control back (and the crew comments) so I presume that's what I'm supposed to do... Can't figure out what next.

I figure I've gotta get to the freighters (as Hayes mentions something about piggyback) but I can never get close without those fighters lighting me up.

Is there a specific route I need to take? I love I-War but I hate how tightly scripted some of these missions are. Do I have to be below a certain velocity as not to draw the attention of the ships? Do I just need to avoid excessive thruster use, like in some of the other stealth missions?

ETA:

Never mind; got it. It seems I'm the master of solving my own problems after I've asked for help, huh. Trick was kinda metagamey - make sure that none of the COSA ships was within 10km as I got dragged back to the base and pop my comsec as soon as possible.

Mission after it was a beast, but more in the good way. Gosh those COSA fighters hit like trucks. Loved the ending, and the fact that all of the final arc of Indie missions happened in the 24h between McDuff meeting the Dreadnaught and the assault on COSA. I always thought COSA were a cool villain and I'm glad to finally see the rest of the story however many years after I played the original game :)

So if any of the devs (I know one is around here sometimes), thanks from the bottom of my heart for such a great game that was a brutal challenge in childhood (I remember hanging that ship identification poster on my wall!) and something I could come back to appreciate as an adult. It's aged really well.
