Independence War 2 - Edge of Chaos, has native support for 1080p and 1440p. But you will have to modify the FoV settings, in flux.ini

The original I-War, originally had a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 640x480 resolution, using a software renderer. I think in the GoG version, the software renderer is used by default.

The 3dfx version uses a proprietery hardware renderer (Glide) and upgrades the resolution to 800x600 (with a 640x480 resolution, as an option).

To play I-War in 3dfx mode, you 'll have to use the following arguments:

-b -16 -800x600 (iwar.exe -b -16 -800x600)

You can upscale the 3dfx version, by changing settings in nglide (nglide_config). nglide translates Glide to Direct3D.

You can set nglide to upscale the game to 1080p, but the image will be destorted. You can set your resolution to 1440x1080, which is the highest 4:3 resolution that you can use to a 1080p monitor.

Thanks for this.
There is now a community patch mod that fixes two of the most glaring bugs this game had for over 21 years: The Dagda Act 2 crash bug and the Wolf's Lair progression bug.

You can read more about it here:

Oooooh, excellent news. Maybe time to install the second game again and dust off my stick.
GOG should integrate that patch into the game.
