I recently tried playing IG2 for the first time on an iMac updated to OS 10.15 (Catalina). The game launches to the starting menu but is centered at the bottom of my display vertically, so only the top half is visible with the rest running off the bottom of the screen (image attached--shrunk to decrease file size but otherwise what I see on the screen).

I've searched the forum here and the internet without finding any mention of this as an issue. This doesn't seem to be the same issue as the zoomed-in display that others have had with NVidia and Radeon graphics cards, but I tried editing the ig2.settings file (located inside the Mac app in Contents/Resources/assets) to run in windowed mode, which had no effect at all. I've also tried running on a MacBook with only Iris integrated graphics with the same result. Changing the resolution of my display also makes no difference.

I don't actually know whether this is something specific to OS 10.15 since it's my first time trying to run the game (it was in my unplugged backlog until 10.15 made half my library unusable). That it even reaches the starting menu seems to show that it is a 64-bit app that could run in theory, since 32-bit apps don't launch at all.

Does anyone have any solutions or suggestions to try? Thanks in advance for any help.

I have the exact same problem and have not been able to get in touch with the devs.

The developers replied to my support request but didn't have any fixes that worked.

I eventually reverted my iMac back to Mojave (macOS 10.14) due to multiple annoyances with Catalina, and the game runs fine there.

Unfortunately macOS Catalina broke support for fullscreen OpenGL software on Retina displays. Most games display a strange checkerboard pattern when run in fullscreen. This is what I would typically do to get a fullscreen game working on 10.15:

1. Get info on the application bundle and check "Low Resolution Mode", if it is not already checked.

2. In Settings > Displays choose a preferred retina resolution. You may have the best success with the display's native retina resolution. OpenGL games will typically render in a resolution where 1 point == 1 pixel.

3. If all else fails, use a tool like SwitchResX to select the display's native 1x resolution.

When I got info on IG2 it already had Low Resolution Mode enabled. At launch the game showed a menu that extended beyond the edge of my screen. Running IG2 from the terminal provided a hint as to what was going wrong. When the game enumerates display resolutions it consistently chooses the incorrect resolution on my MacBook Pro 16":

Regardless of what resolution I activated before hand, IG2 would always select 3584x2240. Here is how I solved it:

1. Install SwitchResX.
2. Manually select 3584 x 2240 resolution at 60 Hz and 1x scale.
3. Launch IG2.

The main menu fits the screen and I was able to start the first tutorial. Some say that it is possible to modify the ig2.settings file to enable windowed mode, but I don't believe this file is read at all in the HD remaster.

I found the fix. Download EasyRes from the App Store (it's free). Change resolution to 5120 x 2880 (1x). Works great.
