I bought this game years ago, when I had Vista. Had some problems with it but worked around it. Since I last played, I had bought a new PC and have Windows 10. Re-downloaded IWD complete. I try to start the game, but it crashes immediately, saying that the application failed to start.

Since it's been so long since I last played this, are there any patches I need to download to fix it? I can play the enhanced editions through steam just fine. I'm not sure what the problem could be.

Go to Microsoft, download and install DirectX 9.
Can't. Directx 9 won't install on Windows 10, apparently.

Yes it does. Go here.
That appears to be a different version of directx 9 than what I found. Installed it. Re-installed IWD complete. Getting the same error message.

If you downloaded the game recently, it should be up to date. Have you tried any of the following?:

1) Run as administrator
2) Compatibility mode for XP
3) Changing the resolution (if you are using an unsupported resolution, try changing that first)
4) Enable or disable 32 bit textures
5) Swap between fullscreen and windowed

Don't try them all at once, just one at a time. If it doesn't work change it back to what it was before. You can change these settings outside the game with the config tool (except my first two suggestions).

I apologize for any errors. It's been a long day.

I tried each one individually and I still get the same error. This is the error message.

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click ok to close the program.

I looked it up online and it says that a file could be denied access. I'm not sure how to fix this.

Where have you installed the game to? Is it C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86)? If so, uninstall and then install somewhere like C:\GOG Games\

Also, not sure if you're using Galaxy but if you are try downloading the game again via direct download from your library page bypassing Galaxy completely and then install in the above location.

Hope this helps.

It's downloaded in the GOG Games file. And I'm not using galaxy. I used the direct download.

That's not an answer. For starters, a file is a file and a folder is a folder. Files go into folders. Files are not folders.

Secondly, "GOG Games" folder could still be inside Program Files. You need to provide proper information. People do not know your system, neither are they psychic.

Just to double check: is that the default folder where the installer suggests installing the game? If so, then it's in one of the Programs folders, which may be the issue. Use the custom option when installing and choose a folder outside of Programs or Programs(x86).

Christ, dude. Calm the fuck down. If the person who asked the question didn't quite understand my response, then they'll ask for clarification, like an adult. Not some petulant child who doesn't understand context or needs to remove the stick from their ass.

This is the location
C:\GOG Games\Icewind Dale Complete

That is the default location when I install it.

Hmm, weird. I've got it installed on both Win7 and Win10 64 bit and no issues, so I know it works. Only thing I can think offhand to try is uninstall completely, and reinstall as admin into a completely different folder. Maybe just C:\Games. Just to be sure. Don't see why it would make a difference, given the default isn't in the Programs folders, but worth a shot.

I figured it out from a different post.

Instead, if the game still doesn't start, move the file back to its original location and try enabling DirectPlay: open "Control Panel" and enter "Programs and Features", then choose "Turn Windows features on or off", check "DirectPlay" under "Legacy Components" and lastly click "Ok" (rebooting may be required).

Haha! That's really rich. I think you should look up the term anger management. :D

Can you say 'irony'? Hehe!
