Hickory: Inside the Icewind Dale installation folder there should be a file called 'setup-ddrawfix.exe'. Run it. If it isn't there, you can download it here.
sorry man I didn't realize this was a iwd2 issue the iwd links for iwd1 kept bringing me back to iwd2 and because the issue sounded the same I thought it would be just as well, but I ran the file just like you said and It didn't work. it seams to me that long time ago when I bought the disc it had the same issue with start up. and another thing each time I go to try to play this game I have to reinstall it and then launch in right then and there and it works fine but if I go to play later it crashes at start up just like described above. Idk if that helps... :)

If you are having continued issues like you state (runs fine at first install, and then craps out later), then that is something on your system at fault. It could be many things, from malware/virus, to a faulty hard drive. You need to troubleshoot your system, not IWD (mods notwithstanding).

actually its not really on my end my pc is clean man. and and every thing is just fine on my end. your only answer is always some one ells problem with their pc the best you could come up with. but no worries I understand your your place in all this. so im just going to post a new thread walking thrue what worked for me just in case its isn't just everyones ells pc that's the issue and that it might actually be a common issue. thanks anyway man..

actually I could not figure it out, i thought i was on to something. no bigy i will just return the game it was only 5bucks, out of the ten other games i downloaded this is the only one i have probs with. i will just pick something ells anyway, unless you got other ideas? i thought it had something to do with the path it was being launched from being different than the path it was downloaded to but i don't think that would really mater unless one of the files in one of the either folders missing or wrong. but it only proved to me an easier way to launch a new install wich only really takes like 5minutes anyway and then short cut that to my desk top. but it would be nice to have things smoother than that, hehehe..

come on man get over it already, its not that big of a deal. im sure your correct in a lot of things you say. you just have a rude way of saying it. but so do I some times. a lot of the times. but you have to brush that shit off. don't take it personal like I just did or you end up feeling as angry as the next guy.. ;)

I'm rude only when people are rude to me. And as for the angry guy, that would be you; I have nothing to get over.
