Since the source code wasn't available to make the Enhanced Edition of this game, modders have taken it upon themselves to do it by other means.

They're looking for people to beta test it. Find out more here: Icewind Dale II: Enhanced Edition

I'm looking forward to trying this. Thanks.
Well...

-You will not have to solve cryptic puzzles to advance in the game?

What a piece of crap. What's next? "Press W to win"?

As much as I love puzzles, I am personally a fan of making it a bonus rather than a requirement. I've seen cryptic puzzles ruin games.

And a random group of modders altering completely the gameplay, like original puzzles or some encounters make it a better game because it is called enhanced? because new spells are added?

The official enhanced editions were patched for years because this engine is a dog to deal with and a lot of new bugs were created, even dealing with the original code. A lot of people was dramatically and unfairly critic with some original decissions. And now a mod that changes critical things in a classic game is going to be the panacea? an "enhanced edition"?

Sorry. Honestly I do not think so. These people should be more respectful wih the original content.

It's a mod. I'd agree with you if this was a product being sold, but it isn't. Ideally, the source code would be available and a true enhanced edition would be made, but sadly the source code is lost.

The way I see it, this is a new way to play the game. They're changing what they can change because they can't change the things that would make it an enhanced edition in the same way as the official ones. And besides not every mod is going to be everybody's cup of tea.

It's still ongoing. I see beta testers still posting in the thread. If it were cancelled, we'd see complaints and requests to revive the project.

It looks like it's still in beta phase. It was updated very recently. You need to contact this person if you want to try the beta.

"IWD2:EE will be released as a free-to-download WeiDU mod pending a closed beta period. Anyone who is interested in becoming a beta tester may contact @semiticgoddess or another member of the team to gain access to the mod."

It's in Beta, but if you go to this thread:

https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/79872/icewind-dale-2-enhanced-edition-is-here-and-the-red-chimera-group-is-looking-for-playtesters/p19

And leave your github account name you can get access to the beta, which has some really amazing features, QoL improvements and fixes (no more flickering fog of war for example).
