Interesting. Mind you, I personally thought the Dragon's Eye Level 5 time loop questline was one of the most interesting parts of the game. However, if it's true that this (and any other story/quest content) is up to the player, then I might be interested in EE.

Its free, so you can just go to the Beamdog site i linked and follow their instructions, its a simple install.
Personally i need to run with a lower resolution than my desktop, becuase the UI get too small for me to read in a 1920x1080

I realize it's free, but my concern was: would it increase my enjoyment of the game or decrease it?

I'm pretty sure Beamdog has absolutely nothing to do with this. My understanding is that they said: "Sorry, the source code and game assets to IWD2 were lost -- so, there's not much we can do as far as making an enhanced edition of this game." Then a team of independent modders stepped forward and said: "Hold my beer..."

Interesting. Still, even if you're right, Beamdog is at least hosting it.

Installed it yesterday and played a few hours. Seems to work fine.

It's hosted on Github. :-)
So you don't even actually download it from Beamdog's website? (And, no, I'm not trying to defend Beamdog's bad sides.)

Works for me, yep.
Is there a way to trick GOG Galaxy in launching the EE version of the game instead of the vanilla version?

Yep

Go to your Launch Page for IW2 in Galaxy.

Click the settings button next to PLAY

Manage Installation > Configure > Features

Check the Custom executables box

Select Add another executable at the bottom of the list.

Find the EXE for the IW2 EE mod and select it.

Check the box under the new IW2 EE executable for Default Executable

It will now launch the EE mod as your default and track your playtime.
