It's not actual hardware issue, but sometimes certain DOSBox configurations just don't work well with all computers. Personally I just change the configurations myself to find the ones which work with my computer. Then again I used DOSBox years before I had even heard about GOG, so I know what I'm doing. I can't think any other solution to the problem than adding sticky somewhere which would explain the most common DOSBox issues (like prebuffer, emulated sound card [for example SB16] settings, cycles and output) how to find settings which suit with your computer.

In this case it was about prebuffer like JohnnyDollar already mentioned.

Dumb question time, how do you open the file so you can edit that value?

Just open it with Notepad.

now how do I get it to be opened the way it was before? they're all opened via note pad now! Anyone?

I assume you accidentally set Notepad as a default program when you opened the file. How you remove that depends on which version of Windows you have. For example Win7 allows you to change it to other program easily, but if you want to completely remove association to all programs then you have to edit registry and remove relevant registry key. Win XP on the other hand allows you to remove associations from menu.

It's probably the best, unless you know what you're doing. It's not very difficult, but deleting the wrong keys isn't a good thing. However as long as you have backups you can always restore things if they go wrong. While I generally like Win7, I dislike the fact that Microsoft removed functionalities which existed in earlier versions and you have to enforce the things, because Windows doesn't want acknowledge the possibility that you know actually what you're doing.
