Missions will not restart after failing them, (well, technically they do) I get the cut scene describing the mission and irrespective of whether I let the scene run or use Esc to cut it short the game restarts with a graphical block and nothing else. I can fire, be killed, move around I think, but cannot see anything.
Anyone got any ideas?
Starting the mission from the front screen works though.

I take it not may people come onto these forums yet!
My best guess is that it probably doesn't like your current graphic drivers. Try to get the latest ones, or older ones if you have the latest, and see if that works. You could also try turning down some of the graphic settings in the game like antialiasing.
That's the problem, why a graphical glitch on restart and not right at the start of the mission, why a restart?
Gone back one driver and still the same, made the glitch slightly worse when switching off some options.
Weird!
Hmmm... I don't have this game, but is there a quicksave option? Maybe you can save the game when the mission starts and then reload it if you fail, instead of letting it restart. That might skip over whatever's causing the glitch.
No, tried that as well.
No matter what happens, whether using my laptop using Vista or my PC using XP the problem is exactly the same! Any restart be it a save game or after my first death does not work.
I have to exit to the main game screen then go back in, every time.
Ok, I looked in the Codemasters forum and think I found a partial solution to the problem. After restarting the mission and you get the graphical glitch again, if you press 'M' to open up the map and then close it again, the game should go back to normal. I only call this a partial solution though because some missions don't give you a map to start with.
Also, I found a patch for IGI 2 to version 1.3. According to GOG.com, their download is only patched to 1.2. That's probably because the readme file says that version 1.3 is a beta update and may cause more problems than it fixes. Still, it's worth a shot. Here's the link:

Hi there.
Yes you're right GOG.com version is 1.2 but there is a valid reason we did that.
50% is that what you mentioned - 1.3 is still in beta stage but if that would fix all bug we would go for 1.3. Better reason is I think, that 90% (or even more if you check) - online servers run 1.2 version. And for some reason you cannot connect game in 1.3b version with them.
So after serious discussion we decided to release game in 1.2 version.
Best

Well, what it sounds like, is there might be an error within the actual program that keeps it from restarting. Because it's actually able to start up and go through the run at least once, until failure. I doubt it's a graphical glitch, given you've updated drivers and used 2 different computers for this issue.
I also doubt that a re-download/reinstall would fix it either. I recommend exiting any other programs running when trying to play the game and see if that gives it a go. It could be that it perhaps isn't clearing out the memory from the previous go and trying to start on top of it. Eitherway, it seems like a bug with the game itself, I'll do more research into the game to try to get a better understanding of it, but as of right now, my best advice is to try clearing out your ram by having no other programs running while the game is running.
I had the same problem. I had to close down te game(ctrl alt delete) every time and restart it.
Pretty anoying, especially when you only have 3 save games per mission. But I made it till the end.
And i.g.i is way better then i.g.i 2
Wow, there are actual save games in missions? I haven't found a way to save it :-(.

Anyway: I've found that quitting to the main menu let's you restart the mission correctly. But I find it strange that I have a load-saved-game option, but no save-game option.

Anyway: it does run on WINE: playonlinux+wine 1.3.6+fglrx latest

Ok, so where is the save button? Or you can´t save a game where you want? What´s the deal with this?

i have the same problem with this version i cant restart a mission the graphics just freeze and wont restart i have to go back to the main menu and then restart ,and after that my computer gets a blue screen ,it says Windows has recovered from a serious error and i have to restart my pc it only does this while playing this game.i have tried it on my laptop and my desktop happens to both computers with this game ,im sure you all will figure it out :) i do like the game when it does work.
Please, update the game with the last patch, or make it available for the GOG version.
I cannot restart mission and cannot install the 1.3 patch because it is not compatible with GOG version (asks for CD).
