I've been trying to find the saved games for Horizon Zero Dawn so that I can delete some of them and restart from just before The Prooving. You can't delete saved games from within the game. GOG Galaxy does not have a way to manage saved games that are copied to the cloud (that alone would probably help).

I don't want to start over from scratch, I just want to delete the autosaves and quicksaves back to my last manual save before The Prooving.

Any ideas? GOG?

One problem: There is no
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Horizon Zero Dawn\Saved Game\
folder, not even with the game running.

...

After doing some research, it appears that the version of GOG Galaxy I have stores (or is supposed to store) it's game save data in:

C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\Applications\53426387680273015\Storage\Shared\Files

Only, the folder is empty, even with hidden and system files being shown. Even so, the game lists the save files and will load and save games, I just have no idea where they are, since they are not in this directory.

(You can find out which numbered directory is supposed to be used by the game by looking for the line

"clientId": "53426387680273015",

in the file

C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Horizon Zero Dawn\goggame-1209025141.info

.)

(You can match any installed GOG game's file save directory by finding this line in it's associated .info file.)

The issue is that, though I found the folder, it does me no good if the folder shows no files. Installing the game and running it creates the folder, but where are the files being stored?

The mystery continues.

Huh. I've encountered that weird Galaxy behaviour before - Flower has two possible save locations depending on whether it's run through Galaxy - but I'm running HZD through Galaxy 2.0 and my save files are in the expected place (except that the documents folder is still called My Documents because I'm running the whole lot under Wine).

In my Wine prefix I don't actually have an AppData\Local inside my user folder (I'm not sure precisely what juggling Wine might do behind the scenes for compatibility with different Windows versions). I do have Local Settings/Application Data/GOG.com/Galaxy/Applications/53426387680273015/Storage/Shared/Files, but it's empty.
Well, I just tried starting a new game to see if that deleted the save files, but no, that doesn't seem to affect them, either.

I've done file searches, registry searches (hm, didn't use that numbered folder name, could try that), nothing so far.

I've submitted a support request, but no idea when I will see a response. Also, I did it under the game, perhaps I should have done it as a support request for GOG Galaxy? Well, we'll see what happens, if anything.

----

UPDATE

Okay, I followed a couple links from GOG.com in a web browser and found that you have to:
1) Run GOG Galaxy
2) Launch the game from there
3) Once the game is ready to load or continue, ALT-TAB back to GOG Galaxy
4) Click on the icon for managing your installation and Show Folder (a Windows File Browser window will pop up)
5) Now, in the folder tree to the left, pick Documents and look for Horizon Zero Dawn.

Once there, you should see a Saves directory and be able to delete stuff from there.

Oh, also, when I clicked on Documents, it took me to OneDrive/Documents,
so on my system, the saved files were stored on OneDrive.

I did get a reply from GOG support, and, after telling them about OneDrive/Documents, they confirmed that, if OneDrive is active, the saves are moved to OneDrive. To find them in the normal Documents directory, OneDrive has to be disabled. (I'm going to keep it as it is, after all, two backups is doubly protected, right?)
