I did an online test of my setup and it failed for both video card and processor. There's several new PC builds for $700 to $1000. I'm thinking that all I really need is a MOB and processor and a video card. I presently have 12megs of ram although probably not the top now offered.

So I would like to know, for anyone playing the GOG release, what your MOB and processor and video card you have and how is the game performing.

Ryzen 5 3600 | 32GB RAM | nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti. Game is performing well (all settings on "high"), of course with a gfx-card that old, no raytracing and stuff.

Ah ha! something to consider. Now all that's left is find a piggy bank! After that I can try it out with the 1.086 patch that was just added to my game list.

Running in 4K all settings maxed out, ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti. Game runs good with minor stutters from time to time - could be better, but then again I might go from Ultra to High and double or triple the FPS...
One thing puzzles me, seems as if regardless what a system is, the game should at least start. But apparently here's a situation where the installation sees what a system is and in my case double clicking the desktop icon, windows security says it does not recognize the exe but do I want to go ahead, yes then absolutely nothing happens.

I have old version amd 6900 series video card and the processor is amd phenom(tm) IIx4 965 processor (4CPUs), ~3.4ghz

I realize the min for the game is an I5 and recommended is I7. Can a game really be this darned picky?
I don't suppose an I7 could be inserted in a Phenom socket or is a new MOB necessary? Either way, guess I'm up the infamous creek!

You're better off picking up a Ryzen 3600 when it's on sale when the 5000 series stabilize, or picking up a Ryzen 5600X if you want to future proof.

You will need a new motherboard no matter what you do, but the 5600X is much more future proofed than the 3600, though is around an extra $100. The motherboard you want is at minimum a B550, or if you want to spring for something a little higher end, a 570. For graphics cards, you can probably pick up a 5700 XT for cheap now, and it's pretty good at 1440p and in some cases 4k depending on the game. It absolutely rocks at 1080p, to the point where the screen tearing gets bad and you'll find yourself purposely pushing the resolution up or settings higher.

For Nvidia, a 3060 which should be out by the end of December would be good, or a 3070. If you want to stick with AMD, the 6800/XT is the most future proofed you can currently get.

In terms of a budget fix that will run everything at decent settings, I'd go with a B550 motherboard, a Ryzen 3600, and a 5700/XT since you're familiar with AMD graphics cards already.

The game itself is less picky than it was at launch, but if you're going to upgrade, you don't want to have to do it again for a while. The 3600 CPU is really good for the money, I just hesitate to strongly recommend it because next gen consoles just released which will cause some evolution in pc gaming.

I hope this helps!

EDIT: Almost forgot, if you upgrade, you will need to upgrade to DDR4 RAM, so be aware this is a hidden upgrade cost.

Very informative, especially the final tip on the ram.

One thing I believe in, is helping people build affordable systems that last a long time. I just can't recommend Intel because I don't know enough about it. I hope this helps your decision making :) Have a great rest of your weekend!

If a system is not minimum, even though file integrity check was ok and the game installed, it will not even start unless you have the minimum requirements !
