I'm rather envious of so many gamers actually playing Horizon Zero Dawn. I downloaded off line files from GOG and installed it. No matter what I try, it will not even start when I double click the desktop icon. Several posts at steam have the same problem. They say this happened after patch 1.08. I notice the included GOG patch is 1.085 ? Guess I have a long wait for another patch to enable startup of the game.

HTWingNut: On the other hand, I hear people say all the time that they'd rather pay a higher premium for games without DRM, yet here we are.

RSColonel_131st: This exactly.

I'm at the gamepoint where I got the "Override" skill, so pretty early, and already it's clear this is a total AAA grade title, maybe not Witcher 3, but damn near as good or better as any of the Far Crys or the latest Metro which I just finished.

To have such a title on GOG is a rare enough occasion, even though in the last years we are seeing more Day1 releases and bigger names.

I can't say how the PS4 version would compare with it's cheaper price, but to me this title looks and feels properly like a 2020 or maybe 2019 release. It's definitley worth a full price game purchase to me, especially seeing how it includes the DLC. And it comes when there are Corona Lockdowns and restrictions of outside world activities which couldn't be better timed.

That said, I purchase rather selectivley and are fortunate to be well employed in these funky crisis times, I can see how others would feel it a bit much.
My reason for paying full price was that the devs put in a great effort to make the game work on PC and its the best console to PC port i have ever played. Its like it was made for PC from day one. And as the devs work on it again, they deserve to be fairly compensated. So its not like they stoped working on it 3 years ago, they came back to work on it again just so PC players can enjoy the game as much as console players did. And they improved graphics for those that care about that.
Did anyone play it on a standard ps4 and can tell a huge difference ? It needs alot arguments to make me pay 50€.

Keith_I2: It's not hard to read between the lines of various posts that a lot of gamers are either unemployed or too young to have purchasing funds. The GOG version includes the newest patch 1.08. Any new patches will automatically be added to your owned games list. Maybe steam does this but for some reason, steam gamers have far too many problems with their steam games.
Having owned an Atari 800 and worked on Wall Street, I'm far from too young to have purchasing funds; though, it's true, I am no longer employed (get to spend much more of my time playing games and coding for myself).

The reason I will wait a while before buying primarily has to do with the official trailers. From what I can gather, there is little to no roleplaying in the game. It seems as if all it is a beautifully graphic intensive shoot-em-up with, perhaps, some RPG elements (I presume) during the character creation period. The fact that it was originally developed for the PS enforces that belief. (I wish developers would include 'creation', action bar, and dialogue screenshots in their trailers)

What "creation"? Aloy is a default character. How about watching gameplay footage instead of relying on trailers? All trailers are simply to showcase how beautiful the game is, which it is. Im in awe.

Trailers are meant to give someone a idea of what a game is about and if they'll want it.. So its a understandable mindset to and action to judge a game if you want even a old one by trailers.. granted I still judge by gameplay footage often times unless I am sure its a game I will want and enjoy from lots of word of mouth and such on how a game is ..

Indeed, it's not an RPG by anyone's standards, to me that's okay. You do level up and get to pick from three "perk trees", Far Cry or Tomb Raider style. You can customize gear and clothing, again similar to the latest Tomb Raider games.

It's not a shoot-em-up either. Hard to classify since it borrows from a lot of good designs, but currently (six hours and 10% completed) I'd say it's an open-world Tomb Raider with a world that feels quite familiar to Far Cry Primal players.

There's nothing highly original about the gameplay, but it's really solid designed, the visuals are superb and so is the story/narration.

I thank you. To the point and well-backed up. Unfortunately, graphics and 'adventure' type games are not my cup of tea, especially at $50 a pop. I'm more into D&D, Fallout, Elder Scrolls

Happy to help. Indeed, it doesn't compare to those kind of titles, so may not be worth it's price to you.

Reading between the lines you're either unemployed or too young to be able to buy a computer that's not a potato.
The GOG 1.08.6 patch is out now. Still, I'll have to dust off a couple of my piggy banks. Just have to remember where I buried them.

LtJamesWatts: I would like to play this game but like so many of you said, the price is too high.
My price would be 30 euros or less.
Actually even less, like 25 euros.

They've made a really bad launch on PC.
So even if all these bugs are fixed now, if they really are, you just can't ask gamers to pay this high price for a game which is 3 yrs old.

Companies need to know their standards and understand that even though we as gamers might have a weak for some games but we need to keep it realistic guys.
We are not milking cows.

Peace out!

GR11: -------------------------------------------------------

Well, that's what you pay for the 'priviledge' of being offline, not tracked and being able to share with friends.
I don't even know if I should see this as an insult or not.
What is your exact point with this statement towards my post?
Feel free to explain this in detail cause I would gladly like to hear that.

I'm not exactly sure how this could be read as insult?

It was always clear that companies would publish their games later or not at all as a DRM free, untracked version. Or charge larger sums for it.

But the great thing is that there is, meanwhile, lots of competition. Which means that also these companies will have to hold sales.

Has the game been on sale on Steam or Epic yet?

No. The PC release only happened recently. Let's just be glad they didn't wait as long as they did with Bayonetta.
