I'm trying to run the game and it doesn't load, a flash from a command console is the only thing, the following error appears in the windows registry:

I have the same issue
I am also experiencing the same issue.

Running Windows 10.

Workaround is to run Launcher here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Homeworld Remastered\HWLauncher

I managed to get a screenshot of the window that flashes before disappearing. It appears it is trying to launch IntelliJ by JetBrains (a program I do have installed).

As an ex-Java developer myself, I wouldn't appreciate having to uninstall my dev software to get a game running ;)

(for the happily uninitiated, IntelliJ is a Java development suite)

Question is, though, why's IntelliJ trying to start up?

Edit: I find the lack of included event information mildly amusing.
Edit 2: I didn't notice how old this thread was. Given the others suggesting to run HWLauncher directly, this is something of an unnecessary zombie.

For anyone wondering, this is still an issue. I had to uninstall Pycharm to run Homeworld Remastered. WTF
Thank you for the help, I also have PYCharm installed and the game will not load. I used Xixas' recommendation and used that app to launch it. I simply made a new shortcut to that app and it works great. I hope this will be fixed to the GOG Galaxy launcher can start the game.
Hello, Dec 2021 and same problem here with same solution. Have Pycharm installed, game won't start, I only have the 1/10 sec command line window flashing up and then "play" button is active again in GOG app. Xixas posted the solution - only I have installed the game on my G: drive, so path is different
g:\GOG\Homeworld Remastered\HWLauncher\Launcher.exe

Created a desktop shortcut and game starts fine.
Same issue, also have JetBrains tools installed. Will try to dig into this later.

As best I can tell this is an issue with the launch executable that GOG has distributed rather than with the game itself. A good temporary workaround for this until it is potentially fixed is by opening the game's page in Galaxy, then going to Settings>Manage Installation>Features>Add another executable/arguments followed by creating a new default launch argument for Galaxy by pointing it at HWLauncher/Launcher.exe and setting it to default.
