Hey DDDespair, it's a 07th-mod team member here.
We'd be happy to discuss/fix any errors that might be in our bgm/se reversion patch on our Discord server.
I think you're already in our discord server but I don't know your username. Just ping me (drojf) and we can discuss it (or just ask generally if I'm not around). If you're not already in the server... I don't have permission to post links in this forum, but the invite ID is "pf5VhF9", or just head to our wiki or website and look for the link
You may want to quote this thread as people might not be familiar with what's going on, and also say I requested you discuss with us about it.
Indeed, I am, but there really isn't anything to discuss. The restoration patch does as intended, restoring BGM that have been replaced, but keeping BGM that have been remastered (post April update). My issue is that the original/vanilla versions could be lost due to the option to roll back to before the April update being lost as new updates come in. My other issue is the branding of the patch as "restoring the old BGM" when it's actually a mixed bag. Yes, technically, it restores the removed BGM, but I would not consider using the remastered versions to fit that bill.
As I've understood it, 07th-mod's purpose was to add content (voices, CG's, backgrounds, sprites) from the consoles to make them available, including the console-exclusive chapters. The point being that the user can choose to use them, or choose to not use them. But if the restoration patch uses the remastered versions, then that choice is removed from the user. More importantly, by branding the patch as "restoring the old BGM," a new user would be unaware that a choice has just been made for them. Of course, most people probably do not care; most new users wouldn't know the difference. But I do, and if others do, then I've made the choice available to them. I'm not asking 07th-mod to host another alternative or anything. The team does a lot of work and doesn't get much in return, so it's only fair that the team decides what they wish to host, use, etc. I just believe that the choice should be available for those who wish to make it, and I fear that the originals could be lost.
Regarding your note on the google doc, yes, my "patch" does revert to tracks which had audio distortion and clipping. But it's a little disingenuous to frame it as simply that; the recordings of the Higurashi are completely different, which is something I hate (although perhaps the restoration patch reverts those, I didn't check.), but the Midi-based tracks use entirely different samples. msys22's intro sounds completely different for example, as does msys23. Point is, it's just not as simple as cleaning up some distortion and clipping.
