Qwertyman: So, am I missing out on anything by keeping this old installer? I keep my gog library backed up and updated, but I don't want to increase the storage space of this game by ~5.5 times if I really don't need to.

EvilLoynis: The only thing the newer installers may have is less compatibility issues with certain systems, the game itself is the same with no new "updates or patches" to it.

So unless your having playing issues just keep the old one.
Thanks for the response. Not having any issues with the old installer but I haven't tested it extensively either. I haven't checked it on Win10, for example. But mainly I was just making sure there weren't any actual content updates I'd be missing out on by using the old installer. Thanks again!
I'd say I'm sad I don't have the bundled installer file backed-up, but I extracted the Chronicles campaigns from the game some time ago and added them as custom campaigns to my Heroes III Complete installation.

I highly advise anyone with both games to do the same:

-Chronicles "installed" this way weigh close to nothing
-You can play Chronicles with the HD mod this way
-You have access to all campaigns in one place

The only downside? Chronicles use custom portraits for Tarnum that are not installed in Heroes III. So you need to choose one of the following:

-Have Tarnum's portrait be wrong - for example showing up as Gelu
-Put the Chronicles portrait files in a relevant directory of H3 Complete (can't remember which at the moment) everytime you want to play Chronicles and remove them every time you want to play regular H3.
-Modify, and this is what I've done, campaign maps (only the first map of every campaign) to change Tarnum's portrait to another one, for example Crag Hack's or anyone's you seem fit. They won't be Tarnum original portraits, but at least they won't be totally off (Gelu).

Just my 3 cents on the matter, perhaps someone will find it useful. I would upload the Chronicles campaigns myself and share them with you, but I'm pretty sure that would be illegal, so you need to do everything yourselves if you want to play Chronicles as custom H3 campaigns.
Hey! I put all link icons in their own directory, gave its own icon to the directory and have it on my desktop, so it is microseconds between I want to play and having the particular game campaign at the load file screen. I can see each directory is the HOMIII engine + data - editors, so overall the application is redundant but each campaign is in its own particular (user, running) space and that is a bonus. No complains, all downloads are generally SO BIG I just breathe deep and get myself a coffee before dozing in front of the laptop download monitor screen. It is even annoying to download small files, I have to wake up quicker! I think these guys meant to sell these campaigns just like books so you would buy one set then another one next week, etc. but now we are used to bundle it all together and get it quick and fast. The impression is reminiscent of Yu-gi-oh s card decks and Flash Gordon era posters. I do like it, maybe there should be more releases like this one for commercial purposes than user made independent maps.
Unbundling in many other games was a very good idea so we could download only the game we actually want. However in this one they should keep the original since this is actually 8 mods of 1 same game.
Heroes Chronicles 'book of bundling tale'

http://www.gog.com/downloads/heroes_chronicles_all_chapters/11533
http://www.gog.com/downloads/heroes_chronicles_all_chapters/11523

http://www.gog.com/downloads/heroes_chronicles_all_chapters/en1installer0

Worked same for all un-bundled bundles.
But this one probably only one when bundle is really better than separated.

There is also muiltiple re-compiled fan-made releases of Chronic's as custom campaigns (not all video possible to play). En and Rus one, all 8 chapters. Saw here same for POL, same all 8 chs. Most else probably rarely re-\uploaded. Discs itself rarely and rarely. And probably not all chapters been translated for Fra and Deu.

GOG Galaxy. Back in 2015 didnt support custom/multiple executables. And GOG prefer Galaxy. For offline they can left old installer.

Its not just bundle like others. Where actually two differ separate unrelated games bundled in one installer mistakenly. Like Heroes 5 TotE is not DLC/exp. Shouldn't be bundled in first place.

Heroes Chronicles are GOGs custom bundle where they are made as one game with Chapter's addons. They share the data folder.
