I don't understand what this is. Has he modded Homm2 to look like Homm3 or is he using Homm3 to play Homm2 scenarios or ... ?

It looks like HoMM3 modded to impersonate HoMM2.

The Mage Guild looks weird now, in HoMM3 it has at least the background, this is just a bunch of scrolls here and there.

Pretty much it is a bastard child of those two games. IMO meh.
It's cool that they want to try and update Heroes of Might and Magic 2's "graphics" a little. But I honestly already like how Heroes of Might and Magic 2 looks and plays.

I always liked the 2nd one the most out of the 6... haha, well, there's 6 now apparently. And I always liked how the 2nd one looked too, I always thought it looked the best out of the bunch.

To me, Heroes of Might and Magic 2 is already perfect :).

Totally agree, graphics-wise. HoMM3 introduced some really nice new features, but I really liked the graphics in HoMM2. That whole era spanning from Might & Magic 3 through HoMM2 where they used a sort of Disney-ish art style was really a golden era for the franchise.

I totally, completely agree too. I just thought it was kool how HOMM III might look with HOMM II graphics. It got me all excited and then...I ran out of beer.....then it hit me...rebalancing the gameplay would be extremely hard and nearly impossible by adding three new factions. I never liked WOG but this looked kind of like a WOG type mod for HOMM II.

This is the main reason I ended up buying HoMM2, to be honest. I've never played HoMM games before, but I've always heard so much about 3 being the best of the series. After looking at screenshots for HoMM2, I thought 'why does this look so much better than HoMM3?' and ended up buying them both during the sale!
