Me and my friends are planning to play Homm3 trought gameranger.

1) Are we gonna bump into problems because one of uses Windows XP and othe has Windows 7.

2) Should we all get the same version of the game, or does this matter?

No. The games must be version 4.0 (Complete) or 3.2 (Shadow of Death - separate version). It does not matter if one is from the original CDs and the other from GoG.

Any good & balanced map suggestions? or are random maps the best option?

I don't remember any particular maps but random maps are certainly the least balanced ones.
