Due to popular demand, there is now an easy way to change the town music back to the original (The Succession Wars) version.
Simply download and run the optional patch that is now available in your account and it will switch the tracks to the TSW version and make a backup of the PoL ones so that you can switch back without reinstalling.
I assume this is for the main DOS version (not the windows one)?

Thanks. This is a great move.

If ONLY... the game could do this itself, based on whether the user loads an original map or an expansion map. A tall order, I know... but I'd love it if original maps played with the original music, and expansion maps with the expansion music, without user intervention. All the music's so wonderful, it's a shame not to hear some of it without taking a conscious decision to change.

There is a "mod" of sorts... more of a third party engine... for HOMM III that plays the game in HD and things, I would not be surprised if this gets an option like that if they ever get to HOMM II.
I love you GoG!!! I love you!!!!!
Nice, though I'll still keep my favourites mix of SW & PoL.

Yes, but now that you mentioned it, I should replace it with universal one. If not today, then tomorrow.
Just awesome ! It was just a detail, but nontheless you took care of it ! I love that !

Yes, this!

Thank you Thiev!
Does this apply only for the DOS version?

I've only got this game a few days ago so not really updated on the situation. Using Windows version here.

My sentiments exactly. This is the major reason I love GOG so much.
How wonderful, thanks Thiev!

A universal update would be greatly appreciated. :)

I opened the game and started a sorceress just to test this. I'm hearing the ORIGINAL Sorceress town theme!

YES!

The thing is, the way the game is coded, it simply plays a specific track off the audio CD in the drive at different points in the game. Hence, if you play with the expansion CD in the drive, you'll hear the expansion tracks instead of the original ones. That is not something GOG can do anything about. All they can do is to allow you to "change the CD" before you start the game.
Much appreciated!
