Hello all,
I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but the movement shadow that can be enabled in combat options and that should appear when mousing over enemy (and friendly?) units does not actually work for me. Is there perhaps something with the Complete version that I'm missing, or some other factor that might prevent the shadow from properly displaying? Any ideas or assistance would be much appreciated.
I've got HoMM3 installed on both my main desktop and laptop, and this is a problem on both. I'm a little fuzzy off hand on laptop specs, but relevant main rig info is as follows:
Windows 7 x64
AMD Phenom II X4 945
8.0GB DDR3@1066
MSI 870A-G54 mobo (w/Realtek onboard audio)
XFX Radeon 4890

The movement shadow displays movement range of your active unit. As far as I remember playing HoMM3 back then, it still worked in the same way.
The only thing that works on mouse over unit is the unit info.
Thanks for the reply. It's been a long, long time since I've dusted off my original HoMM3 disc, but I had thought that whichever unit you were presently mousing over would have their movement range shadowed; and that not mousing over other units would simply show the range of your current active unit, like you describe.
Perhaps I'm simply misremembering, but this is the entry that I just copy-pasted from the HoMM3 manual for the movement shadow option: "This checkbox turns on and off the show movement range option. The place where the highlighted creature can move is outlined when this option is on."
I asked a good friend of mine how he remembered the shadow working, and his description tracked with mine. I suppose we could both be guilty of wishfully misremembering here, but beyond that I'm not sure. It's not a deal breaker either way, as I'm just happy to be able to play HoMM3 again without any workarounds, but I was just hoping to get the movement shadow "back to normal"--again, assuming my recollection of "normal" is correct. :)

I not sure what you mean, but if you're refering to the shadow movement in combat then you can enable that once combat begins. You can change the combat speed, shadow etc. once your in the combat screen.
Just a quick update, but this was apparently a Windows 7-specific foible. I installed HoMM3 Complete on a new XP installation after having stability issues under both x86 and x64 Win7, and the movement shadow is displaying properly now. I'm not sure what exactly was afoot, but all is well again. Thanks everyone for the feedback! :)
