Added cloud sync - but when I select play it syncs (successfully) and then the game does not load!

Hello
Had the same problem
I copied sdl.dll and sdl_net.dll from diffrent gog game (descent)
from Descent\Dosbox\sdl*.dll to HOMM 2 GOLD\Dosbox\

If you have GOG Galaxy, on the game page click More->Manage installation-> Verify/Repair - it should download the missing files.

The SDL DLLs are free software that GOG incorporated. You could try fetching those DLLs directly from the authors' site: < https://www.libsdl.org/ >.
