Not able to get HoI4 and having never played these before, 4 seems to have a lot possibly too much for a new player to this series.
My favorite is Hearts of Iron 3. I love it when modded with August Storm mod. I also really enjoy the Dies Irae Gotterdamurung mod. There is just something so soothing about this game.
I'm having fun with the first HOI. It's still fun despite its age.
For me it is HOI2 Armagedon.

Tell me more. Is it the UI, the map, what is it?

Hello!
I've been playing Stars and Stripes mod with the update to Their Finest Hour. I love playing as the United States. I've been playing as all three options, Allies, Axis, and Communists. I love the music, I love watching over time the items I planned and built going into action. I love watching the world shape differently over time due to AI action, did the nationalists win this time or the Republicans? I love looking at the world map, looking at a obscure province in a county and then looking it up in wikipedia to learn more about the people who live there today.
It is just so much fun and so relaxing. I can put it at super slow mode and just look at different things. I have to go back now, the Japanese just invaded Johnston island and I need to send Carrier group 2 and Battleship group 1 to chase them off(defeated their carrier group and sank the Zuiho but lost USS Worden to friendly fire from the Astoria). Maybe the Alaska will get a kill this time, love seeing my favorite ship classes from WW2 get some love.

wow cool! I mean, I appreciate this detailed reply. Gotta say I do the same: always looking stuff up, learning about these obscure places and their history. Like the Chagos islands for instance. Or the foundation of Kathmandu.

Thanks and sorry for the late reply ;)
