GOG site says this will run under Win 8, I cant get it to work at all. I've tried Compatibility mode XP sp3 and ran as admin, crashes on launch. Anyone out there have any ideas?

I'm getting "Haegemonia has stopped working" error after the game intro :(
Ok, guys...that might be oddly- but I think, I know how to make it work. My friend has bought this game and we spent some time to make it run on Win 8 pro 64bit. The solution is following:
1. install haegemonia somewhere, lets name it "Location 1".
2. initiate another installation of haegemonia, but to another place, lets name it "Location 2"
3. uninstall haegemonia :) (Win+X -> programs and functions -> uninstall it :)...
4. go to "Location 1" - here should be the copy of haegemonia which survived uninstall (cause uninstall in programms menu deletes the latest copy only). So, go to foulder with haegemonia and run it via Hgmaexe or Hgmexe - not gogwrapexe!!....

That way we made it work. It seem to be some parameteres gog team provided for the game are incomptible with Windwos 8. Well....probably you can also make it run just cleaning the registry from haegemonia's param-s?...

One naughty drawback of this method: the original "haegemonialegions of iron" will start asking for Cd-Key...

This actually works! Now I have to figure out how to get around the CD key issue.
I confirm I can launch the game with this workaround, after finding a CD key on the magical Internet. Thanks a lot ! I hope GOG will eventually find a way to patch this game for W8.
Hey Guys,

Thanks a lot, solution works,

if something of interest, a key is posted on youtube.

I would like to second a request for the GOG team to solve this issue. It's proving rather frustrating.

Please make this work on Win8.
More and more games on GOG do not work on Win8 and yet more and more users will upgrade to Win8 - it's a vicious circle.

Please GOG, make this work on Win8.

Al.
I haven't reproduced this problem on my end. I got this game in the recent sale and it works perfectly on Windows 8.1 running natively as well as in a virtual machine with the original Windows 8. This indicates that it isn't an inherent problem with this OS.

If those having problems could post their system specifications that might help narrow down the source of the problem.
Either runs with the latest update OR the same trick with the SOTS The Pit worked here.

Namely:
Instead of installing into C:\GOG Games\Haegemonia - Legions of Iron, do an install in C:\GOG Games\Haeg

I did and it is working like a breeze.

I've tried everything suggested and it will NOT work at all. Just keeps dropping back to the desktop. I'm running Windows 8.1 x64

Help and thx

Are you running the exe with admin privileges?

Edit:
Never mind, I am downloading the game again. You are trying to run Haegemonia - Legions of Iron, right? Not Solon Heritage?

Edit2:
It works on my end with the solution I proposed. I ran the installer, selected "Options" changed the install directory to GOG Games/Haeg and launched it post install. And finished the first mission to see whether it will crash on me.

What hardware are you trying to run it on?

Ah... I am kinda stumped then. Because your rig and mine is kind of similar, and what do you experience? You see the videos but cannot start the game or you do see the vids, the menu but the game crashes on you? When does it crash in short...

I don't see anything. It won't load to the videos.

I double click the .exe and nothing happens. It tries to open and start the game but just drops back to the desktop...
