Looks like the guy who made the original sound fixes for both games as updated the files to work on the latest Win10 versions of the game. They were meant for the steam version, but I've already tested them and they also work on the GOG versions of the games. Here are the direct links:

Thanks! I've just purchased in the sale and the crashing still happens on Win 10 20H2. Hopefully, the patch for Legions of Iron still works.

Just started the game and barely into the 3rd Earth mission the game crashed due to some unspecified sound error. After reloading the game, it crashed at about the same spot in the mission. And then again.

Came here to see if other people had this problem and, as chance would have it, this was the first post I saw. I'm glad to say the fix linked here still seems to work as I was able to finish that mission without any further crashes.

Too bad a game that's advertised as working on Win 10 requires a third party fix to avoid crashes to desktop. Honestly, this should probably be a sticky thread in case other have the same problem.

Same here: the fix allowed me to finish 3rd earth mission that was crashing.
