Hi,
I have a quick question regarding AoE ranges and measurements - What is the difference between say 3 Meter Target Area and 3 Meter Radius with skills? Consider the example of Oathkeeper's Eye of Reckoning (3 Meter Target Area) and Judgement (6 Meter Radius) - both are centered at the player, so it's not the matter of (dis)attachment - so how do they compare? is Target Area actually a diameter? Is is a side of a square, triangle, octagon, a pear-shaped heart height?

Also, I recall having a manual for Grim Dawn attached to my account (and I remember it, because I remember cheking out what's elemental damage and how it does affect fire/cold/lightning damage), but it's now nowhere to be found. An oversight, or intentional takedown (due to changes the game went through or something of the sort)?

Hi Andrzejef.

Concerning the "Radius" and "Target Area" measurements of abilities, I have come to the conclusion that;
"Radius" of an ability, stands for the size of the area that is affected/damaged is applied by, the ability, influencing simultaneously all the hotiles caught in it, for the ability's entire duration. For example, the Demolitionist class's "Flash-bang" ability, equally distributes its effect and damage in a small fixed area, to every hostile at the same time, momentarily. Also the same class's "Black-water Cocktail" ability, follows the same principle for the entirety of its duration. Note that both of those abilities don't need to be casted on a hostile to be activated.
"Target Area" of an ability, stands for the size of the area that the ability can cause gradually or instantaneously transmittable damage, to the hostiles around the primary target of the ability, for the ability's entire duration. For example the Inquisitor class's "Storm Box of Elgoloth" ability, causes damage to its primary target and every additional hostile that is at a certain distance from the primary target for the duration of the ability, while the primary hostile can be either mobile or immobile. Note that this ability needs to be casted on a hostile, with a clear line of sight, in order to be activated.
As for the game's manual, I wouldn't know if there was a PDF version of it in the past, while I cannot seem to find one in my game files or one available as a downloadable goodie. Nevertheless there is a "Game Guide" available at the game's official site, which can be found here;
https://www.grimdawn.com/guide/
I can only hope that it will be put together, into a beautifully crafted PDF, in the near future.

Cheers.

Hi Fate, and thanks for your in-depth reply.
I'll start with thanking you for that link, it will be mighty of use, so many thanks again.
Now back to those skills - I found out that both, in fact, mean radius, testing those on Oathkeeper Eye of Reckoning (3 meter target area) and Nightblade Ring of Steel (4.5 meter radius), with and hit range seemed adequate. Might be indeed for different context, and your explanation is quite solid.

Trouble is, Eye of Reckoning does hit every hostile around you, in this 3 meter target area (which in this case means actual radius, not a potential one) as soon as one pops up, for the whole time the ability is being channeled (maybe that's the key? Judgement, BWC or Ring of Steel is instantaneous, after all, and bound to happen in one certain point when cast; EoR is not, it allows/forces movement while channeling) as opposed to, for example, Demolitionist Mortar Trap with 3 meter radius explosive in 15 meter target area potential, where said explosive might drop.
In any case, I'm going to mark the question as answered.

Many thanks again. :)

Hi again Andrzejef.

I would be lying if I said that I know what all of the abilities you mentioned do, but I would like to note that the throwing range of projectiles, generated by abilities, is the same for all, either by them going over the targeted location, on the targeted location or sliding/rolling to the targeted location.
From what I realize, every ability that has a "Target Area" effect must be casted on a hostile or the player's character and its effect could possibly be transmitted, by the entity that the ability was casted, in a non-fixed area, unlike a "Black-Water Cocktail" would ignite only a specific area, while if passive, in order to activate and lead to mana "burn", it would require contact with a hostile at a certain distance.
Glad I could be of help!
Also I did a bit of editing of my previous reply, since there were some leftovers of mixed assumptions, as you already noticed.
:D

Cheers.
