Can somebody please explain (for dummies like me) how to install this game from scratch so it works?

I have bought and installed it from GOG, downloaded the patch, but cannot find this old installer setup.

Please, I want to cross the alps again with Hannibal, like in the good old days :)
Thought I had it fixed, but game crashes relentlessly.

I can confirm groundup236091 solution works with the new installer as well.

Just download 1st patch and then 2nd patch.
None of these worked for me, I keep getting a window asking for a CD now, tried just some of the fixes as well with the same result. If anyone could provide like, a step by step guide as to how to get these working on windows 10, I would really appreciate it
I'd like to voice my problems as well.
I have applied the patches and fixes from the links provided above. Alexander worked fine even without them, as well as Hannibal; Caesar, on the other hand, gives me the interpreter error just as soon as the map starts (both nm and momentum versions).

I wonder if it might be an Nvidia thing...

Ideas?

Later, guys!
I got Alexander and Hannibal to run mostly fine but can't for the life of me get Caesar to run properly. Most battles crash as soon as I try to start them. Any ideas on what to try? I tried the patches which worked for Hannibal and Alexander. I have seen an old installer mentioned but I don't know where to find it so can't try that.

Ok I got Caesar to work. Just ask support for the old installer then apply the patches previously posted.
Hi,
I bought the game on GOG. Just installed it through the client 1.2.66. Attempted to play and it full screen played the intro video and then game crashed before getting to menu screen. Found this forum and read about the patch links. Found the files and downloaded. Didn't ask for an old installer from GOG as the game is already installed so I dont understand why one needs an old installer. Anyways tried to copy the first exe patch and it wouldn't paste due to the file or folder being used in another application. Renamed the old exe and pasted the patch. Game launched but menu page messed up. Closed and copied in the "nm" version of the second link and tried that, clicking on it directly from the game's folder, not useing the desktop icon shortcut. No intro video and an even more messed up menu screen launched. Had to use task manager to close. unistalled game. What am I doing wrong? Not a windows programmer here, just a 39 y/o wanting to play a good old game from long ago that Windows 10 doesn't use my old CD anymore. Whats the deal with an "old installer" from GOG if they install the game via the client? How is this done, step by step? Do you even have to do it? I saw a post that said these patches work with the "new installer", so what does that mean if the client installs the game? Again, not a windows programmer here. Can someone please write out the full steps and sub steps so a simple guy like me can do this walkaround windows 10 thing properly and just play the old game. Thank you in advance to whomever can do it.
Kevin
Most people haven't been able to get this to work with Windows 10. At least not for all 3 games. Frankly the game just needs a proper Windows 10 patch.

For now, i'm just sticking to Field of Glory 2 until a patch does come out. Which is a bit of a shame as I used to enjoy these games a lot in the late 90's/early 00's. In some regards the battle system for Great Battles series is even better than the one for FOG 2.

You need the old installer for Caesar to work. I don't know why but the new installer seems to be broken for Caesar. It looks like it instals properly but then you can't launch a single battle. At least thats how it was for me. As for your other problems follow the instructions posted by DreaperF4
1.- Old installer setup_great_battles_ce_2.0.0.16
2.- Patches from www.ianm1.plus.com/html/patches.html
3.- Patch from www.ianm1.plus.com/html/great_battles_new_version.html
4.- Start each game with the exe (caesar.exe, etc) and NOT from the desktop shotcut
I can't get any of them to run properly no matter what. Should I just get a refund? I feel like I've been scammed. Is it asking too much that these work immediately at purchase without doing all sorts of extra crap and voodoo?
Bought the games a while back and I cannot get two of them to work - the process involved to get them to work is NOT USER FRIENDLY. I give my money to GOG to do this garbage for me. I don't want to hassle with making it work - I want it to work WHEN I BUY IT - is that really too much to ask - GEEZ.
