Bumping this useful thread.
The link to the FPS patch is wrong. Here is the correct link.
I recommend installing Satti's Texture Patch and ThielHater's Texture Patch. Satti's patch improves the land and building textures and interface, and ThielHater's patch adds a bunch of smaller improvements.

Very nice and helpfull posts from both of you.
Thank You very much.
Cheers
Indeed. Thank you both!
No problem :)
I just want to add that I ran into a bug in the Orc Temple when I was running mods. If you find that some switches aren't working in the Orc Temple, run the game without mods to activate the switches. That was the only real problem I encountered.
So how do you use the fps patch?
If i try to run it, it wants me to select some sort of file i guess? Should this be the Gothic.exe? How does it work exactly?

First, install the Player Kit if you haven't already (the FPS patch requires it). Next, run the FPS patch and navigate to the game's System directory (C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Gothic\System by default); the file name filtering should show you only the one that needs to be patched. Select that and the FPS patch will do its work. The difference should feel immediately obvious, but if you aren't sure you can confirm it with an FPS overlay tool such as Fraps; if the displayed FPS is whatever your monitor's refresh rate is set to (60, 75, etc.) the patch has indeed been successful.
Thank you very much.I hate playing games in lose resolutions.
The hint about the dual-core optimizer helped my overlapping sound problems. That was an annoying bug that was making me kinda depressed about my purchase. Thanks.
I read up somewhere, i believe it was in this thread, that there is a patch that corrects the game crashing when the orcs entering the castle cutscene appears, but I cant find it. Can someone show me that patch? And, if I install that unofficial patch, will my saved games still work?
thank you!
bump for truth

That's the Ironkeep Community Patch (currently at version 1.0a). I'm not sure whether you need to start a new game, but since some things have been rebalanced you probably do.
EDIT: better link.

Does anyone have a new link to the FPS patch?
I'm getting a 404 from the link for the GothicFps-108.zip

No problems here.
Edit: Uploaded them to my site so grap it and other's mentioned from there if other links don't work. Hopefully they uploaded fine. Large files sometimes get corrupted probably due to my slow upstream speed (512kbps).
