Click on load game, then the latest save and I am now in Andora with the minimal equipment and the hints. Saved game appears to be gone. Wait! There's more! Tried an older save - worked fine but it was in the middle of a battle and, surprised, I died quickly. Load it now and there I am dead but standing and watching the fight continue. Obviously, the power outage that I had just after saving caused a problem tracking the saved games. Couldn't even find a save games folder. It appears I can start a new game but --- well, you know. Also, about 1/3 of the time, the infamous, "where's the guru" thing happens (yes, I'm patched to 1.75.

Any suggestions?

PS - tried loading as administrator and reboots.

Was late in the game, trying the Water Mage ending (first time I did the Innos ending). Thought I'd play through with each ending then move on. I guess the only real difference is who you kill and the vocal script telling the future but I'd like to hear it. All I had left was to kill the Black Mage. Still can't find the guru too (found two of the chests the first time, but never number three - now I can't remember where number two was!).

Er - you mean Ardea ? ☺

lordhoff: Couldn't even find a save games folder.
Depending on Operating System :

- Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\[Name]\My Documents\Gothic3

- Windows Vista/Windows 7:
C:\Users\[Name]\Documents\Gothic3

Check the file size of the save - if it's significantly smaller than the other saves it may be hosed.

Second chest is in Varant, in a cave near the road between Braga and Ben Erai.

You can find the Guru without the chests, if you look hard enough (at least in 1.74. - don't know about 1.75)

Well, its there --- but the game isn't finding it??? Size is similar to the others.

Um, yeah, Ardea. Memory isn't exactly my strong suit.

As far as the guru quest, there is a third chest, right. This one gives me the sense of deja-vu. Wasn't there one like this where the guy died while writing the last clue (Gothic I, I believe).

Are there 2 save files - *.g3savcp and *.g3savcpdat ?

Third chest is north of Silden - a ruin on the high ground past the rebel camp(s).

Fourth chest is in Nordmar, above the cave of the shadow beast that swallowed one of the Ancestor Stones.

Perhaps someone else can answer you Gothic I reference - I've only played G2 and G3 ☺

Yes; one large, one small just like the other three older saves.

FOUR chests, eh? I wasn't even close and I thought I searched everywhere in my journies.

Looks like the answer to this alludes everyone. The closest save was hosed too - have to look again how far back the other one is. As soon as I get the patch to download, I'm going to reload Gothic III to see if that works otherwise (sigh!), I guess I'll have to start over. After the water mage ending, I'll try the black mage ending. Too curious to see where they fall but killing my friends will be hard (I seem to be best at roleplaying myself).

There was a similar problem in this thread.

Best you can likely do is make frequent saves in a new game *but* keep a track of how many saves you have.

I move older G3 saves to another folder to keep the number reasonable, since the saves can build up fast ☺

I took this opportunity to load the 1,75 patch since I was in the middle of the last game when it came out. I really doubt the patch had anything to do with this but it really seems like the graphics are much better. It was likely in a similar file before but, I also managed to get an answer to the question that wasn't solved here on the power of the flaming sword in the patch literature. It is "100". Doesn't seem that good - I'd of guessed about "80", Might have to stop selling the scrolls - at least early on.

RE: The link. Yep; except that I don't use quick save, that is nearly exactly what happened including Diego and friends sitting around with the Orcs (although, I did have a weapon). Generally I consider two saves enough so I alternately save - a lot. Didn't help me this time since both were broke in different ways. Will alter that approach. Thanks.
